July 13 riots against Hindus

The speakers said observance of the 13th July as the so-called Martyrs' Day by the political structures of the State is tantamount to rubbing salt to the festering wounds of the minority Hindu community of Kashmir. It adds insult to injury that on a day, when the Kashmiri Pandits were subjected to mass persecution and loot, has been designated as the official martyrs' day by the political class of the Valley.

They said in accordance with the chalked out plan in 1931, the mobs under the supervision and leadership of communal forces looted Hindu properties and houses at Vicharnag, Maharaj Ganj (the hub of business activity), Amirakadal, Hari Singh High Street and parts of Bohrikadal. In Kanikoot village (now in Budgam district) Hindus were mercilessly beaten, their properties vandalized and one family was thrown from the windows of their three-storey house and brutally killed, they added.

The nationalist forces in the State cannot forget the facts of history and have been observing this day as the Black Day for the last number of decades. A resolution moved by Dr Jitendra Singh demanding that July 13 holiday be abolished, Accession Day be declared as a gazetted holiday and Brig Rajinder Singh chair be established in Jammu University, and his life size memorial be set up in Jammu as he gave sacrifice for unity of the State. The resolution was late moved by voice vote.

Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) also observed the July 13 as Black Day. Kashmiri said on this day seeds of hatred were sown by a non state subject Muslim Qadeer who incited Muslims to take recourse to communal violence by attacking minority Hindus in Valley.

VHP also observed the July 13 as Black Day and paid tributes to those innocent people who were killed by the secessionist and anti social elements on that day. VHP State president Dr Rama Kant Dubey also challenged the declaration of State holiday on July 13 and questioned the Government for paying tributes to so-called martyrs on the day.

Ladakhis were conquered by Dogras. But amazing they identify with Dogras but hate Kashmiris:

SATP

Buddhist-majority Ladakh had strong reservations and insecurities with regard to the transfer of power from the Dogra Maharaja, Hari Singh, to a Kashmiri administration under Sheikh Abdullah in 1949. The Ladakhis did not identify themselves with the Kashmiris, and were further alienated by the iniquitous power structure and partisan policies of the Abdullah government.

The decisions of the Shiekh Abdullah government to impose Urdu in Ladakhi schools, to discontinue scholarships for children of backward areas, and the termination of grants-in-aid provided by the Dogra regime for three primary schools run by Shias, Sunnis and Buddhists were also strongly resented.

They emphasised historical links with the Dogras of Jammu rather than with the Kashmiri Muslims. Two sets of arguments were offered. Since Sheikh Abdullah's case rested upon the Treaty of Amritsar, the Maharaja's transfer of power was valid for Kashmir Valley alone, as Ladakh's relationship with the Dogras was governed by a separate treaty resulting from the War of 1834, 12 years before the Treaty of Amritsar came into force, in which the Valley did not figure.
Claudearpi

Memorandum submitted by Shri Cheewang Rigzin, President Buddhist Association, Ladakh to the Prime Minister of India on behalf of the people of Ladakh. May 4, 1949: "we desired to see nothing more of the administrators from Kashmir, who had mostly governed us during the past to our utter ruin, that our Cultural kinship with the Hindus encouraged us to expect a Sympathetic regard for our interests and an assured future in a Hindu-majority province, and finally that historical causes bound us to the people of Jammu and not to those of Kashmir, for it was the Jammu Dogras who conquered Ladakh for Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1834, while Kashmir came into his possession in 1846, twelve years latter.

though we are in and of Tibet, the political and economic system of that land-our racial and spiritual home-are too archaic, antiquated and unprogerssive to suit us. We rather wish that India should exert her wholesome influence in the political and economic fields on her (Tibet) at the present day even as she shaped and moulded her spiritual and cultural life in ancient times.

Surprised to learn that there are Hindu Jats in Jammu Kashmir.

Jats hold protest: Daily Excelsior

Kamal Singh lashed at the leadership of Coalition Government for not granting the OBC status to Jats which it is their fundamental right as they are socially and educationally backward and the constitution fully protects the rights of weaker section of the society. The protest was held under the banner of Jat Kalyan Sabha.

Singh said that the Jats in all other states of India have been granted OBC status including Central services as well but to the utter surprise, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is sleeping over the file for last one decade even when the community has always voted for NC and Congress right from 1947. The leadership of these parties should rise from deep slumber and grant the OBC status without further loss of time or they will have repent in coming times for their negligence towards the community, he added.
I was under the impression that Hindu Jats north of Haryana had converted to Sikhism.
