Extreme poverty, beggars and homeless population are actually increasing in developed word. And the reason is that most of them have poverty lines above $10/day and aren't often not bothered about people earning less than $7/day. Economic growths have gone close to nil.

They might be heading to same fate what Latin America, once one of most richest regions in world today.

Aging population is putting the burden of more pensions on government with lower number of taxpayers.

Africa has a population bomb, increasing poverty ratios. Most of them have negative GDP per capita growth rates. In fact by 2100-2150, if current rate goes on, there will be multiple countries in Africa with populations ranging from 50% to >100% of populations of China & India.

Replacement of oil with non conventional sources will land gulf into economic crisis.

Eastern world itself is going to become fulcrum and pole of power in world like Europe because of growth but even that will be short lived. What Asians will sell when other countries won't be consuming.

The help has little to do with well being of people and more with scoring PR points. Policies in world economy and not the little amount of aid is what can decide well being of Africa.

Policies like what? The world will never give them a good deal as long as they don't get something in return. Look at India, how many policies helped us? Its only now when they can't ignore Indian economy that they started giving us attention.

I have travelled to Africa. Things are not very good but much much better than the image of Africa we have in our minds.

The historical factors of last 200 years which are responsible for their problems, would count too for sure.
If colonization wouldn't ever have happened, world would have been a totally different and better place to live today.

Of course. But past is past. Currently, the UN is helping with troops, medicines, food and shelters. Billionaires and Celebs (even though for brownie points) are contributing. Even if they are not making a huge difference, they are however bringing attention to Africa big time.

You know, this is really ridiculous to see European countries constantly pointing out the poverty factor in Africa. Some of the Africans are known to live in hardy conditions simply because they choose to live. There are numerous examples of African people themselves clarifying this on Quora. One gentleman called Didier Champion sums it up really well by comparing a cattle-owner in rural Rwanda with an upper-middle class white American.

The cattle owner might be wearing dusty shoes and plain old shirt and pants while catering to his cattle. But the man has an average of 700-800 cows and bulls. The value of each cow is over $2-3000 on an average according to Mr Champion.

That puts the worth of the cattle owner well over $2.4 million, which an average burger-munching American cannot even imagine in his life.

We can equate this to the cattle owners living in rural parts of our own country. They are well off but their way of living is hardy.
