Wiki says this -

The Zittara multi purpose carbine was first displayed at the Defexpo 2006 Indian defence industry exhibition and is currently being produced by the Indian Ordnance Factory. It is based on Israel's highly successful IWI Micro Tavor assault rifle and is designed for use by special operations forces in close quarter battle. The weapon is designed to be compact, yet versatile and adaptable in the field and is capable of firing three different types of ammunition. It can be used as a carbine (5.56x30 ammunition), an assault rifle (5.56x45mm) and a sub-machinegun firing 9x19mm rounds. It has a claimed accurate range of 200 meters.

Oh!!!! It actually is Tavor. According to Wikipedia Tavor in Indian service is named Zittara.

It is primarily in service with special Forces - like MARCOS.

In late 2002, India signed an Rs. 880 million (about $20 million) deal with Israel Military Industries for 3,070 Tavor assault rifles to be issued to India's special forces personnel, where its ergonomics, reliability in heat and sand, and fast-point/fast-shoot design might give them an edge at close-quarters and employment from inside vehicles. By 2005, IMI had supplied 350–400 Tavors to India's northern Special Frontier Force (SFF). These were declared to be "operationally unsatisfactory", however; meanwhile, Israeli units were voicing complaints of their own. The required changes appear to have been made, and the Tavor now looks set to enter operational service within a couple of months – even as India gears up for a larger competition that could feature a 9 mm M.T.A.R. 21 version.[6] Tests in Israel during 2006 went well, clearing the contracted consignment for delivery. The new Tavors will have a modified single-piece stock and new sights, as well as Turkish-made MKEK T-40 40 mm under-barrel grenade launchers. Singapore Technologies will supply the 5.56 mm ammunition.[7] The weapon is known as the Zittara in Indian service.[8]

P.S.
Monk the link you have given says :
Merc 2000 timeline: In the Merc 2000 timeline, the Indians have kept their Zittaras quite close, and have never exported them. Of course, some Zittaras have inevitably been captured by the Pakistanis, and the Pakistanis are reportedly working on reverse-engineering them.
Where could possibly they have been captured??!!!

That is correct. The Tavor is also part of the modernization program for other counter-insurgency forces because of its credibility in heat and sand, ergonomic design and fast-point/ fast-shoot ability providing a distinct advantage to troops in close-combat firing, corner shots and firing from within vehicles. We signed a deal worth $20 million with TAAS (then Israeli military industries) for the purchase of 3070 Tavor assault rifles in 2002. However, the deal hit a snag when the IMI initially supplied between 350 and 400 TAR-21s without grenade launchers to the northern Special Frontier Force (SFF). We then declared them 'operationally unsatisfactory' and claimed damages. And contrary to reports by Janes Defence Weekly, the Tavors were subsequently delivered to India as per the revised scheduled, and a report by Israeli Weapons Industries claimed that the entire delivery of 3070 rifles was nearing completion in 2007.

The Tavor will replace the outdated stenguns being used in the Army, the paramilitary forces and in time even state police forces, beginning with counter-insurgency troops. As a matter of priority, it will be equipped first to the seven Special Forces battalions, which are designated with conducting specialised tasks behind enemy lines in insurgency-hit states like Assam and Kashmir in keeping with the Army's new operational doctrine. The rifle first appeared in the valley in late 2007/ early 08 and has been operational with regular troops there and several other SFF battalions since then. The following attached images of the Tavor with troopers in Kashmir and with a marching Army Parachute Regiment contingent at a parade in New Delhi confirm that fact. Various sources also say that the Ministry of Defence has expressed interest in acquiring the newer version of the Tavor Micro/ MTAR (9mm) for our parachute regiments.
