The NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed in the area and a rescue operation is under way.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is also scheduled to visit the city and take stock of the situation.
The LG Polymers industry was established in 1961 as Hindustan Polymers for manufacturing polystyrene and its co-polymers in Vizag. It was merged with Mc Dowell & Company Limited of UB Group in 1978.
Gopalapatnam circle inspector Ramanayya told TOI that they found 50 people on the roads in unconscious state and reaching the area has become very difficult.
Cops are appealing to the people to come out of their houses and go to safer places.
The Visakha West assembly constituency MLA P Ganababu alerted his cadres for the rescue operations and also urged that people of the city should not come towards Gopalapatnam as the gas leakage was causing breathing and other problems.
PM Narendra Modi calls AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy over phone and enquired about the Vizag gas leak incident. The CM explained that the situation was under control and all measures were being taken to help the victims.
Gas leak effect felt in areas within a radius of 2 kms
The effect of the gas leakage was felt even around Santhoshnagar and surrounding areas - located more than 2kms away from the place of the incident. Residents here complained of breathlessness, vomiting and a few even fell unconscious. Around 6am police came to these localities and asked the residents to vacate their houses. Many of them went to distant localities like Muralinagar and are stranded there on roads. While, a few went to their friends' or relatives' places in other parts of the city.

As other members in loc thread expressed their suspicion,I too suspect this might be sabotage op to "avenge" ryaz naikoo.

#VizagGasLeak is an accident. :doh:They were strictly following all protocols. Investigation underway. Forensic teams are also being sent to the spot: Andhra Pradesh DGP Damodar Goutam Sawang.

NIA should take over the investigation from the state police.

Thoughts and prayers to those lost their lives,

Om shanthi!

The gas smell is observed upto 4kms frm the site of mishap. Distant than what they are showing on news channels. @sreekar too observed the same.

Importantly has the leak stopped now? Local tv stations are saying it is still not plugged.
Styrene is not water soluble. So why the advice given to cover nose with wet towels?

It's most likely just an accident, with the gas not being evacuated due to lockdown, pressure might have built up.. Also, if the two tanks are linked, it might be possible that both tanks suffer a leak at the same time. The loss of life is not much compared to Chinese industrial accidents, like the kunshun in 2014 and Tianjin in 2015..

Probably a pure industrial accident triggered by Chinese virus lockdown.

now there is a high likelihood of Chinese lackeys in India create a union carbide type PR situation, to create animosity between Indians & South Korea.

my first job interview happened at LG polymers..

Vizag people got to know their bravehearts today ....
1.) Vizag Police
2.) NDRF and SFRD forces
3.) Local youth

The first to respond were vizag police ...dcp uday bhaskar ips was along with the team in search and rescue operation, despite contamination and loosing breath and eye burns evacuated many infected peole after evacuating most they fainted mostly inside jeeps while giving announcement and siren later rescued , now healthy and fine .

2.) within minutes after first evacuation wave came SDRF and NDRF officers they directly went inside factory and sealed the leak along with LG technicians (otherwise daamge could have spread to whole vizag ) .now best chemical warfare commandos are conducting third phase rescue operation on animals and decontaminating areas .

3.) the unsung heroes are the local youth ....they didnt even know whats happening but seeing police officers effort they too participated . Most of them just woke from sleep in shorts or lungis and shirtless but they evacuated nearly 1000 people with help of bikes , cars and seven seater autos ...until the ambulances came , when first local team fainted after their effort it was local boys who carried them on bikes .

Together local youth and police took a heroic effort of evacuating 5000 people under 150 minutes and by 10 o clock situation was under control .

Do you know how imp was this?

If dcp sir and team were not first responders ...1000s would have died of high exposure for 45+ minutes .

If local youth didnot take away older people and fainted police officers in second phase using bikes and autos 100s would have died

If chemical warfare commandos from NDRF and SDRF deployed by state and central govts , didnot seal the leak and decontaminate area along with GVMC ...the toxic air would have reached more parts of vizag .

Medical staff responded within minutes to ventilate the kids , women and elders. removing their clothes washing their bodies . They reacted very well .

Vizag today proved why they are not only a beautiful city but a city of brave hearts 🙏🏾

RIP for those who lost lives and lets pray for those in ill health recvoer very fast and well ❤ . #VizagGasLeak #Vizag #Visakhapatnam
