Doesn't Vizag have a lot of breeze to & fro sea? How is the gas accumulating?

No accumulation since noon. Tender breeze and the smell waned by 12:30 mostly. People there said the first hand effects mitigated considerably by noon. We were afraid when news appeared at 11 a.m that leak resumed despite efforts by the unit and disaster mgmt authorities. But it was alright by evng. Local boys and cops, authorities saved the day.

The Gas was leaked from two 5,000 tonne tanks, which had been unattended since March due to COVID19 lockdown. It led to a chemical reaction, and the heat was produced inside the tanks, which caused leakage. said ACP West Zone Visakhapatnam

Gas fumes leaking again from the tanker where there was Styrene leakage today.

Around 50 fire staffers, with NDRF's support, are carrying out operation.

We've ordered evacuation of villages in 2-3 km radius for safe side precautions: Visakhapatnam Dist Fire Officer Sandeep Anand

First #Visakhapatnam , second #Raipur, third #Cuddalore ..3 incidents in a single day.. Doesn't look like accidents at all. Definite sabotage..who wants to sully India's image as a safe country for foreign Cos who want to leave China & come to India ? Requires probe

Visakhapatnam: Thick smoke emanated from a Crude Distillation Unit plant at Hindusthan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) refinery, earlier today. As per HPCL PRO,"Due to a technical snag, the crude distillation unit plant restarted.The situation was immediately brought under control".
