Don't their pilots need normal training hours? They have over 300 planes deployed over there. In the past, these pilots have to carry out their training inside the mainland, now they finally get the chance to do their training in the air field where they are supposed to fight the war.

On the other hand, Taiwanese Independence belief has been building upon 2 assumptions:
1. Mainland will not dare to attack;
2. US will come to help if war starts.

Now the first one is finally broken when you see the other side's jets showing up every few days.
The second one becomes skeptical if US doesn't match Chinese by increasing their own military activities.
If they do, they will have seriously reduce the service lives of their own planes and ships. Remember, mainland China is only less than 200 km away from Taiwan, the most closest base for US forces is around 600km.

And how many chinese will die sinking in those 200 km ??

I have renewed confidence in Taiwan defending itself based on the Ruski-Ukraine war. Ukraine shares a long land border with Russia and has held them off for 6+ months, against a much vaunted and overwhelming Russian army - the successor of the Red Army which pummeled the Wehrmacht into submission almost single handedly. Everything else in WW2 was a sideshow in comparison.

Well, today's Russian army has no intention to destroy the whole Ukraine. Until today, the total number of Russian army in Ukraine is only around 200k, about 1/5 of her total standing force.

PLA has to cross 200KM+ strait to get to Taiwan and will have to take murderous losses! PLA/CCP might still win but I am very skeptical about their appetite for losses. If they take 20-30K losses like the Ruskis have, they might simply throw in the towel.

In today's generation, the CCP will lose the mandate of heaven if too much casualties. You can thank CCP's one child policy that has been in force for several decades. It made their children much more precious and furthermore without a social safety net such as social security or such, today's generation depend on their next generation to take care of them during their retirement years. How can you take care of your retirement if your only child is killed and you can't get any more kids due to your age?

As a result, today's Chinese society has become more casualty averse even more than the US.

Holding off the Russian Army B team which is currently outnumbered and somehow gaining land as ukranians are fleeing their positions from mere artillery fire while sucking American taxpayer money and europe.

The real Cold War would be when US cuts off imports from China and limits the dollar supply to them. Right now the Americans are importing and fattening Chinese like ever before. It will hurt USA massively too so it won't happen In one go .
But it is happening in stages USA is now denying china access to high end technology and blocking chinese companies from it's exchanges ( restricting dollar funding).

While usa is pushing it's manufacturers to seek alternatives of China ( apple expanding in India , Vietnam; samsung expanding in India )

China is currently facing massive outflows of capital as investors are taking geopolitical risks under consideration. This is perhaps the real motive behind Pelosi visit to Taiwan. More tension around Taiwan more investors leave china.
