I somehow don't understand the US Pakistan love hate scenario.

I believe the logistic route is also blocked.

How is the ISAF managing?

What is the reasoning behind US' claim that the drone attacks are 'fully legal'?

Supplies are coming by air. Expensive but the US has made up its mind on not sucking up to the Pakis for opening the route. If they do it, well and good, if they don't, they will airlift. They will not stop drone strikes.

This article gives some background on what has happened in the US-Pakistan relations.

A cocktail of NATO GLOCs, Salala killings, apology from the US and April 15 attacks in Kabul by the Haqqani network all ending with a restart of the Drone attacks

I think the US had all its calculations ready.

Options were:
  • Transit via Pakistan.
  • Transit via Russia and Central Asian Republics.
  • Transit via Black Sea, South Caucasus, Caspian Sea, Central Asia bypassing Russia.
  • Transit via PRC.

They stuck to what was probably the cheapest option for them, but when that turned unreliable, they have simply gone for the next cheapest option. I do not see any pause on the part of the US drone attacks. The US is smart.
