BEIJING: China's foreign minister says Beijing and Washington need to build more trust, though he suggested the onus is on the US to respect Chinese interests on issues like Taiwan and Tibet.

Foreign minister Yang Jiechi said at a news conference on Tuesday that despite differences, relations between China and the US are moving forward.

Yang says the key to sustaining the momentum is for each to heed the other's core interests, especially Taiwan and Tibet.

Yang's comments show how those longstanding sore points continue to bedevil relations, beyond recent friction over Iran and Syria.

Beijing has long pressured Washington to end arms sales to Taiwan - a territory China claims - and to withdraw support for Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama

some comments by TOI readers...

Chinese are less human, more material like, living in a straight jacketed state induced code of conduct ,limiting their infinite human potential. They are copy cat without originality. Most unattractive nation to other countries. The largest human race under house arrest.Their life is equal to farm broiler chicken. Unfit for world leadership,as they can not get along with others. Most selfish business minded. Modern China has contributed nothing to human civilisation.

I wonder why China insists that one must view the world as per their diktats!

Life is but a compromise!
