The manufacturing the regional commuter and transit trains for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut semi-high-speed rail corridor for RRTS Phase 1 has been started by the French company Alstom.
In a release issued by the company today, it said that these RRTS trains are 100% indigenously manufactured, with over 80% localisation and are being manufactured in Alstom’s factory in Savli (Gujarat). This facility will produce the bogies, car bodies and undertake train testing. The propulsion systems and electricals are being manufactured at the company’s factory in Maneja (Gujarat).
As per the contract, Alstom will deliver 30 regional commuter trainsets of six cars each and 10 intracity mass transit trainsets of three cars each.
The first look of the train for India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) was unveiled in September 2020. Inspired by Delhi’s iconic monument, The Lotus Temple, the fresh, modern and advanced look of the new trains resonate a unique amalgamation of sustainability and India’s rich heritage. These energy efficient semi-high-speed aerodynamic trains will incorporate latest tech features to provide a superior passenger experience, to all commuters, including the specially-abled.
These trains have been developed with the vision to transform the future of regional commute for passengers in India.
The RRTS corridors will operate the fastest trains in India with a design speed of 180 kmph. Right ergonomics, safety, low life cycle costs and high recyclability also contribute towards making these trains an attractive sustainable choice to promote public transport thereby reducing traffic congestion and air pollution significantly.
This line will be the first in India to adopt the European Train Control System (ETCS) hybrid Level 2 signalling system, which is the core signalling and train control component of the European Rail Traffic Management System.

Traveled below the RRTS Pillars from Delhi to Meerut just before Second lock-down.

The Work is on going at amazing place. Will try to visit by next month again and will click some pics too.

Dehradun metro saga is coming to end. Instead of metro or metrolite, Dehradun may get Metro neo.
For tackling traffic problems between Dehradun Mussoorie, a ropeway is under construction.

Ropeways looks so cool in Europe, Instead of Metro projects in each city, we can go for Ropeways or cable cars of new modern designs in all Hilly Cities.

Last year i visited, rope way will be from half way to mussorie. Some light metro can be build between ddn station and mussurie center point.

Majority of expense in a metro rail transit system is land & infra and not rolling stock. If you have the money for land & infra then why not run a train on it which are much higher capacity and efficiency than buses. Trolley buses are designed for better utilisation of existing road infra. This neo seems to me an amalgamation of the worst of both metro and trolley bus.

I remember using the Delhi metro with my extended family in early 2000s when it was first launched .No purpose, just wanted to experience what Metro feels like. We have come far
Me too, none of my relatives live anywhere close to the RRTS line but still I’ll travel on the route once it is launched even for no reason just to experience it (as the Gurgaon one is still far from operationalisation).

RAPIDX starts operation at 160 kmph, covers 17 km distance in 12 mins, public opening soon

Synopsis
Empty RAPIDX trains have started testing for technical issues on the 17-kilometre priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai depot, with trains running at up to 160 km/h, enabling the distance to be covered in 12 minutes. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor will allow riders to travel Delhi to Meerut within an hour when it opens to the public in 2025, with trains running every 15 minutes.
In a significant development, RAPIDX trains have commenced operation of empty trains at a blazing speed of 160 kmph along the 17-km priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai depot, covering the distance in just 12 minutes. As per a ToI report, the trains are currently undergoing tests on the mainline, mimicking their future commissioning mode. Operating between 6 am and 11 pm at a frequency of 15 minutes, these test runs aim to identify and rectify any technical issues. The public can anticipate the launch of services on this section soon.
An official from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), responsible for the project's execution, todl ToI, "The current RAPIDX train services simulate their actual operation on the mainline, preparing for the smooth functioning of the priority section after its launch. The present schedule commences at 6am from Duhai depot and continues until 11pm."
Scheduled for full public accessibility in 2025, the complete 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor will enable commuters to travel from Delhi to Meerut within 60 minutes, with trains running at intervals of 5-10 minutes. However, the 17-km priority section of five stations - Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot - is on track to be operational for the public in the near future.
This priority section has received the green light for operations from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety, Government of India. The Ministry of Railways has also granted approval for the RRTS rolling stock, characterized by its sleek design and impressive speed of up to 180kmph.
Central to the RAPIDX operations is the Duhai depot, serving as the core hub for all operational activities. Presently accommodating ten trainsets with a capacity for thirteen, the depot features 11 stabling lines, two workshop lines, three inspection bay lines, and one heavy internal cleaning line to facilitate maintenance, testing, and upkeep. Additionally, the depot houses the test track, workshop, automatic coach washing plant, and other essential facilities.
Officials conduct a comprehensive fitness check on the train the night before operations commence. Pre-departure checks focus on interior equipment, including passenger seats and grab poles, as well as the functionality of exterior elements like fire extinguishers, headlights, flasher lights, and door indicators.
The Duhai depot also hosts crucial operational centers, such as the Operation Control Centre, Depot Control Centre, and Security Control Centre. These centers play a pivotal role in ensuring commuter safety, managing operational disruptions during emergencies, and minimizing passenger service interruptions.
"This depot serves as the heartbeat of RAPIDX operations," an NCRTC official told TOI. "Its energy needs are met by a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 585 kWp. Designed to function for around 25 years, this solar plant is projected to generate roughly 666,000 units of solar energy annually. This green depot is a testament to NCRTC's commitment to fostering a cleaner, greener environment in India."
RAPIDX comprises two additional corridors, namely Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB-Alwar and Delhi-Panipat. The former will be developed in three stages, commencing with a 107-km stretch from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to SNB Urban Complex (Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror). Subsequently, the line will extend from SNB to Sotanala (33.3km), incorporating Shahjahanpur, Neemrana, and Behror. The third stage envisions a 58-km SNB-Alwar extension.
The Delhi-Panipat corridors, diverging northwest from the capital, will connect Delhi with Haryana's Murthal, Gannaur, Samalkha, and Panipat.
