KIEV, May 14 (RIA Novosti) - Despite improving relations between Russia and Ukraine, Kiev has no plans to recognize the former Georgian republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Ukrainian Foreign Minister said in an interview with a respected Kiev daily.
"The issue of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders is fundamental to us," Kostyantyn Hryshchenko told Kommersant-Ukraine.
South Ossetia and Abkhazia broke away from Georgia in the early 1990s after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Russia recognized their independence after a five-day war with Georgia in August 2008 that began when Georgian forces attacked South Ossetia in an attempt to bring it back under central control. Only Nicaragua, Venezuela and the tiny Pacific island state of Nauru have followed suit.
Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko supported Georgia in the war over South Ossetia, causing a worsening of already sour relations between Russia and Ukraine. Kiev's NATO bid and a series of gas disputes were also causes of animosity.
Viktor Yanukovych, who was sworn in on February 25, has pledged to steer a more balanced policy towards Russia.
Before his victory in February's polls, Yanukovych's Party of Regions called on the Yushchenko administration to recognize the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Many experts believe Yanukovych, seen as pro-Russian during the election campaign, will "disappoint" Moscow, pledging friendship with the Kremlin while still trying to pursue Yushchenko's bid to take Ukraine into NATO and the EU.

Abkhazia, S.Ossetia push for recognition

Russia recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia shortly after a five-day war with Georgia in August 2008 that began when Georgian forces attacked South Ossetia in an attempt to bring it back under central control. The two republics have also been recognized by Nicaragua and Venezuela.

those georgan Teritories was recognised by russia only to have military bases in Georgian teritory.
After 2008 war Georgia Recognised Russia as Occupant and russia was unable to have "Peacekeeper`s" bases in Tskhinval Region and in Abkhazia.

And Yanukivich was not such "Putin`s puppet" as Russia Thought.

Saakashvili was the one who withdrew from JCC. Russia didn't need Georgian permission to be there. France was trying to get Georgia to renter it as they had withdrawn all their troops from the region making it harder for OSCE observers to stay. It was Georgian withdrawal from JCC that gave impetus for Russia to veto the extension of the OSCE mission.

And Yanukivich was not such "Putin`s puppet" as Russia Thought.
He got the Black Sea Fleet there for another 25 years in the first 60 days in office. How much more puppet do you want?

Already posted that video for a laugh when it first came out. The treaty is already signed sealed and delivered. Tymoshenko failed. The majority of Ukraine doesn't pay attention to the opposition since they sided with Yushenko. He drove their economy to hell and it never came back, Yulia is seen as part of that problem and nothing but a door stop to reform. People are tired of words, they want action and they will let a pro-Russian sell their sovereignty if it brings them some money.
