U.S. Issues India Travel Warning

The U.S. Embassy has warned Americans of "increased indications" that terrorists are planning attacks in the Indian capital.

The embassy says shopping areas in New Delhi could be especially attractive targets.

But New Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said Wednesday police have no intelligence of an imminent attack in the city.

The embassy said that terrorists have targeted market places in New Delhi in the past where U.S. citizens or Westerners are known to congregate or visit.

It advised Americans traveling or residing in India to maintain "a high level of vigilance" and watch out for unattended packages.

Militants linked to Pakistan-based Islamic groups have been blamed for previous attacks in the Indian capital.

This is the 2nd advisory USA has issued in less than one week.Last advisory usa issued on 16-17 april and immediately there was blast at IPL match on 17th in bangalore besides that another 4 un-exploded bombs were found.

I think terror groups are having Dry runs in bangalore.yesterday they found 2 unexploded bombs and two others went off now again one today was found.remember when serial blast went off in jaipur delhi ahmdabad and surat in 2008 then also bangalore had dry runs of sort wit one bomb going off and 2 found unexploded. There seems to be major tragedy in making in india and above all usa issuing travel advosory to its citizen visiting india.
Thats why david headly is so important to india.USA it seems has knowledge of major terror attacs on india but it just gives fuzzy warning signals.sometimes it seems usa is in hand in glove with pakistan in attacking india through terrorists.

Another explosive device found in Bangalore

BANGALORE: A day after two low-intensity blasts in the city, an explosive device weighing 2kgs was found wrapped in a yellow bag near Mahatma Gandhi statue on MG road. The device has been diffused and sent to the forensic department for tests.

As stands filled on Saturday for the Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers IPL match, two bombs went off at the Chinnaswamy Stadium wounding 12 people and triggering panic. Roughly 20,000 people had packed into the stadium and hundreds more were streaming in when a loud explosion at Gate 12 rocked the arena and rattled nearby buildings. Six policemen were injured when the grill near the wall collapsed on them.

The explosion occurred at 3.15pm. Another one about 20 minutes later compounded the cops' worst fears because the second bomb went off closer to the stadium and near the state police wireless headquarters. The explosives were hidden in the bushes.

Preliminary forensic investigation revealed that the explosive was an ammonium nitro glycerine gelatin stick. It was detonated with a micro-chip fitted timer. Police remained tight-lipped on who they suspected and pointed no fingers. But of late, Bangalore has emerged on the terror hit list as a prime target of resurgent India.

Terrorists may be planning attacks in India: US

Terrorist groups may be planning attacks in India, the US has warned in its latest advisory and asked its nationals to exercise caution during their stay in the country.

Alerting US citizens, the Department of State said: "The US government continues to receive information that terrorist groups may be planning attacks in India."
Before also usa issued travel advisory to india on 29th jan 2010 and after 2 weeks of that we had blast in pune.

The thing is usa has intelligence about terror attacks on india but it shares with indian govt fully or not?or is it like indian govt being lethargic towards the security of its people allows the attack to happen intentionally even if it has intelligence provided by usa.its can be either of the two questions.secondly This david headley aka daud gilani guy has treasure of information about all the attacks on india and usa is furiously protecting him just to save the skin of isi officers involved in 26/11.This speaks of usa perfidy a lot.Daoud gilani is 2nd instance of usa protecting pak.1st being the 1993 mumbai blast when FBI lost/burnt all 1993 technical evidences.

This is becoming a political weapon, what good is a warning without specific details of where, when or who to give a warning covering the whole nation is more than a little fuzzy or vague. If the warning said to avoid the large cities or sporting events etc... it would make sense but this just seems to be games played by Obama.

^^It was always a political weapon coz its effects are multi pronged including economy and sports relation. The simple point is if usa wants to nudge india to do its bidding it has this political weapon coz as of today we ve already ou sourced our internal security in in the name of intelligence cooperation against terror to usa.

Gosh, get out of your sleep already.

Understand this, USofA neither have any obligations nor duty to inform India of impending terrorist strikes. If they share intelligence with us, much appreciated otherwise their work ends with issuing a travel advisory for US citizens.

We have to figure out ourselves as to why need help from USofA ?, Is our intelligence sleeping ?, who's duty is to protect Indian citizens, CIA or RAW/IB ? We don't need to accuse US for our shortcomings some of which were hidden/bargained for by mammoth Indian economy ex Blasts in IPL bangalore match. Would the series or match have continued if similar incident would have taken place in Pakistan or any other south Asian country for that matter ? BIG NO, infact expect cricket to be suspended for 5 years.

Time and time again, fate is so kind to offer us second chance for correction of our mistakes and if sarkari babus move their lazy @ss once in a while, maybe someone's life will be saved and won't result in embarrassing slap on our collective faces.

why are we in a position where our security is dictated by others??we have been in this position since 26/11 and it has become worse. If USA was really concerned Headley would have been in India unless they have something to hide that Headley knows.

one warning is good enough to stop tourists, and temporarily hurt the economy; done a few times it is good enough to discourage investments.

USofA needs Pakistan right now as

# A underpaid mercenary force

# provider of supply route for its soldiers in Afghanistan

This time if we suffer from another mumbai like carnage, by god we need to send a brutal message to ISI. We should suspend all water supplies to Pakistan until conspirators of LeT and JuD are handed over. Its a well established fact now since UN report on Benezir bhutto is out that ISI and PA has deep connections with terrorists.

These reports have been around for decades and USA just ignores them. Our security is our buisness and we need to keep USA out of it.

Americans warned about possible terror attacks in India

The State Department is warning Americans about the possibility of new terror attacks in India.

The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is listing well-known markets as possible targets and urging Americans to be on guard, especially for unattended packages.

"There are increased indications that terrorists are planning attacks in New Delhi," the embassy said in a "warden message" on its website. "Terrorists have targeted places in the past where U.S. citizens or Westerners are known to congregate or visit.

"Markets, such as those located in Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash, Karol Bagh, Mehrauli, and Sarojini Nagar, can be especially attractive targets for terrorist groups," the web message continues. "If you are in an area where unattended packages are spotted, you should immediately exit the area and report the packages to authorities."

In Washington, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley, called the warden message "a prudent warning" but would give few details. "There are some specific concerns we have but I'm not going to go into them from the podium," Crowley said.

"It [the warden message] was just a caution to our citizens within the American community that we have growing concerns about terrorism and it might affect both Indian citizens and American citizens."

"We are very mindful that in the attacks on Mumbai, Americans died and Indians died and citizens of other countries as well," Crowley said. More than 160 people died in the November 2008 terror attack in Mumbai, India.

why are we in a position where our security is dictated by others??
1. If warnings were concrete the entire concept of terrorism would be a moot point.
2. Obama has far better and more important things to do than playing political games with India by issuing travel advisories.
3. One of those many things is to protect American citizens.

The fact of the matter remains that India's state mechanisms remain third class and are neither trusted nor respected by developed nations, for very good reasons.

Australia, Britain issue travel warnings for India

NEW DELHI: Australia and Britain on Thursday warned tourists of the increased risk of militant attacks in New Delhi, joining Canada and the US, which have urged foreigners to avoid parts of the Indian capital.

The United States said Wednesday it had information of a "specific" threat to half-a-dozen of the city's shopping areas and markets which it described as "especially attractive targets."

The Canadian government said on its website that an attack could be carried out "in the following days or weeks in market areas" of Delhi frequented by foreigners.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade updated its travellers' website on Thursday to give information about the new warnings issued by the United States and Canada a day earlier.

Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash, Karol Bagh, Mehrauli and Sarojini Nagar are all believed to be possible targets for terrorist attack in the Indian capital, the website says.

Following this new advice, the Australian High Commission in New Delhi said Thursday it "strongly" advised Australians "to minimise their presence in market areas of New Delhi."

The warnings come as thousands of athletes and tourists prepare to travel to New Delhi for the Commonwealth Games and only days after bomb blasts rocked Bangalore ahead of the Indian Premier League semi-finals.

The advisories were upgrades to previous general advice warning of attacks on prominent business and tourist locations such as Western-owned hotels.

A statement from the British High Commission on Thursday warned that "there are increased indications that terrorists are planning attacks in New Delhi."

In February, a bomb ripped through a crowded restaurant popular with travellers in the western city of Pune, killing 16 people, including five foreigners.

Australia, however, has not upgraded the overall level of advice on India, continuing to urge travellers to exercise a high degree of caution while in the country. —Agencies
