They have really reduced the clutter around the radar mast, and from the shape it does appear that they are paying close attention to RCS, reducing the detection range.
I guess these new DDGs have 64 VLS launches, right?
so is this ship being optimised for anti-ship/land attack or more towards AAW/CBG escort?
I doubt PLAN would use these for ASW IMHO

8 AShMs, 8 LACMs, 32 Long range SAMs of the S-300 class and 32 medium range SAMs of the Barak II class, which leaves 8 extra VLS cells for additional AShMs, LACMs, SAMs or even anti sub missiles. That's plenty to handle every threat.

So, the Type 052Ds will be fully multirole. Of course, they can also go for mission specific versions.

Some launching tubes are multi-roled. why are you so fond of mere numbers, even US don't use VLS for antiship missiles, I may be wrong is India the only country use VLS for anti ship missiles?

US cruisers used to carry VLS ASM Tomahawks, but those were discontinued. Russian Shipwreck missiles come in canister VLS.
