Authorities investigating source of fire; none injured in attackTwo explosions shocked the southern port of Eilat Thursday morning in what authorities believe was a rocket attack. No injuries were reported.

Authorities are currently trying to locate their point of impact determine the source of fire.

In 2005 a rocket fired from Jordan landed next to the Eilat airport and two others missed a US Navy vessel docked at the nearby Jordanian port of Aqaba. No one was reported hurt.

A group linked with Al Qaida claimed responsibility for the attack.

Two Katyushas fired at Eilat from Jordan or Sinai
Two Katyusha rockets were fired at the southern Israeli city of Eilat early Thursday morning.

Although the rockets came from the direction of Jordan, the defense establishment is looking into the possibility that the rockets were launched by militants in the Sinai Penninsula.

One of the rockets struck a field near the Jordanian city of Aqaba, while the other exploded in the waters off the coast. There was no word of damages or casualties.

The defense establishment and the Jordanian security forces have coordinated an investigation into the matter.

A similar incident occurred in 2005, when militants linked to Al-Qaida launched a rocket from Jordan at southern Israel.

It was not yet clear who was responsible for the rocket fired on Thursday

BBC is reporting that the Rockets were fired from Egyptian Territories and have landed in Jordan.

Two rockets reportedly fired from Egypt have landed in Jordanian territory.

Israeli military sources told the BBC the rockets were fired from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and aimed at Israel.

Other reports suggest that rockets were fired at Israel from Jordan but did not clear Jordanian territory.

One rocket landed near the Jordanian city of Aqaba, the other splashed into the sea. No casualties were reported.

U.S. Official: Advanced Rockets Biggest Israeli Threat

The spread of increasingly sophisticated rockets - many fitted with precision guidance systems - along Israel's borders poses the biggest immediate risk to that nation's security, Andrew Shapiro, assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs, said July 16.

"Ever-evolving technology" that often ends up in the hands of Hezbollah and Hamas makes it harder for Israeli officials to keep their nation safe from attacks, Shapiro said. Those groups are increasingly able to field rockets that are more precise and able to cover greater distances, he added

But even "crude" rockets put Israelis living along its borders at risk, Shaprio said during prepared remarks at the Brookings Institution in Washington. The advanced rockets mean U.S.-Israeli security cooperation is more important as ever. He said the Obama administration "stands shoulder-to-shoulder" with Israel.

That comment was just one in a number of passages where Shapiro underscored the administration's view that the two nations' relationship is as close as it ever has been.

He said Washington and Tel Aviv have a "broader, deeper and more intense" relationship than ever before. Shapiro said the Obama administration has "redoubled [its] commitment" to meeting Israel's security needs. He called Israel "a vital ally."

Shapiro talked of the administration and Tel Aviv establishing a number of high-level groups that are focused on a range of issues. He mentioned a handful of U.S. budget accounts from which security assistance is sent to Israel, noting Israel gets more military aid from Uncle Sam's foreign military sales program than any other nation.

The sometimes fawning rhetoric came after months of tense relations between Washington and Tel Aviv.

The tone of his speech did not go unnoticed.

During the question-and-answer session, a member of the anti-war group Code Pink said Shaprio sounded more "like an agent of the Israeli government" than a senior U.S. official.

A senior Syrian diplomat identified as that nation's ambassador to Washington, Imad Moustapha, asked Shapiro why U.S. officials never speak of Israel's nuclear weapon arsenal, as well as why Washington does not look into allegations that weapons it sells to Israel are being used against civilian targets.

On the latter charge, Shapiro said the U.S. takes any such allegations seriously.

In the meantime, Shapiro said the administration supports re-establishing a permanent U.S. ambassador to Syria. He urged the U.S. Senate to confirm Robert Ford for the position. If confirmed, Ford would become the first U.S. ambassador to Syria in five years after already frosty relations between Washington and Damascus chilled to new levels.
