Two Navy Rafale crashed in the Mediterranean

On Thursday, September 24, 2009 around 18:00, two fighter jets from the Navy, the Rafale aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, were damaged in the Mediterranean Sea about thirty miles east of Perpignan.

This event occurred during a test mission attended by two fighter jets Rafale.
Major water and air assets were immediately deployed to search the area for two pilots, one of which was recovered. Search operations are coordinated by the maritime prefecture of the Mediterranean Sea area and continue to find the second driver.

These means are composed of a star of the SNSM (National Society for Sea Rescue) helicopters from the civil security of Perpignan, a utility helicopter Dauphin base of naval aviation Hyeres, two dolphins and a Air plane watch Hawkeye aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and a maritime patrol aircraft ATL2 base of naval aviation Nîmes-Garonne.

Two French Rafale fighter jets crash at sea

PARIS, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Two French Rafale fighter jets crashed in the Mediterrenean on Thursday during a test flight from the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, the navy said in a statement.

One pilot has been rescued at sea, another is still missing.


Rafale, made by Dassault Aviation SA (AVMD.PA), is France's most-advanced fighter plane which was about to obtain its first export order ever as Brazil is mulling ordering the jets. (Reporting by Marcel Michelson)
