Chandigarh is a surprise to me taking top spots, not well known to foreigners (me). guess it's somewhere north to Delhi
The service sector, which comprises of educational institutes, consultancies, tourism industry, real estate and insurance companies
then it sounds similar to our Chengdu. Yet Chengdu is also famous for industries like auto, and aviation...

Chandigarh was the first planned city in India. Really beautiful at the foothills of the Shivalik range in the Himalayas.

I have lived there for some years. Some of the best years of my life. Everything is within 15-20 mins drive.

it is pointless to look for the exchange rate because these are real figures and not adjusted to inflation and these date back to 2007-08.

What is the difference between the first two lists?
1st one gives you per capita earnings for towns and cities, 2nd one gives you data for union territories, and states.

Yes, they are indicative of real growth with a base year of somewhere around 2001 I guess. If you look at the nomnial per capita income, it is less than even the national average (>$1000 - Rs. 47000/-).

Yes, I read some years back that Bangalore has more cars than every other metro except Delhi. Delhi had more cars than all the other three metros combined.

Delhi has more cars than whole of Pakistan and also the top 5 biggest Indian cities combined iirc. Everyday atleast a 1000 cars are added on Delhi's roads. Also Delhi has more mobile users than any other city with a telecom density of over 100%.

exchange rate is quite 'tricky'. in 2005 US$1=RMB8.2 or so, but in 2009 that's $1/RMB6.82, which can pull all the Chinese cities up the nominal GDP ladder measured in USD. PPP exchange rate shall be more 'real'
For example, the World Bank's World Development Indicators 2005 estimated that in 2003, one United States dollar was equivalent to about 1.8 Chinese yuan by purchasing power parity [4] — considerably different from the nominal exchange rate that put one dollar equal to 7.6 yuan.
Interesting to see the how RS is measured that way.
