As we know there is tendency for threads to go into meltdowns from time to time, mostly as a reaction to external circumstances.
From a DFI moderator's perspective, we would want the discussions to be informative and productive which adds to knowledge and understanding of members, meltdowns are being counter productive to this endeavour. meltdown fill pages, and add no value to the group.

This thread is an opportunity for members to suggest ideas, that can prevent/manage meltdowns.

Ya'll Nibbiars this thread is useless as nothing productive will come from here. Discussion after discussion and not affirmation actions.

This is a proactive preemptive initiative from my end, i am trying to find out why there is a meltdown in the first place.

My observations on why meltdowns are happening :

1) Mimicking the outrage encouraged by mainstream SM and News media.
2) Clash between expectations and reality.
3) Reacting on limited information.
4) Falling into traps set by professional propagandists (domestic & foreign).
5) Intentional flame baiting for personal point scoring.

Ya'll Nibbiars then create a commission therad not a chit chat thread. Take suggestions from the memebr. This looks like hippie Thread where everyone will comment and in the end no result will achieved.
explain this further..

Ya'll Nibbiars

1 . make a discussion with fellow moderators to discussing this.

2 . Make a thread to take suggestions from the memebers.

3 . Try to identify the problems if discussing with memensr neede then make a therad for its be separate or unified.

4 . Try to make possible solutions for the problems.

5 . Discussing reoprative actions and their effects.

6 . How to implement and with what actions, effects etc.

7 . Impermanent of the suggestion and solutions.

8 . Running this solutions to reduce further meltdown.

9 . After few months trying to find if the solutions were effective or not.

10 . Relations of this process.

Or simply outsource to some or form a DFI comitte to carry out this tasks.

Solution to problem already exists and being implemented. Thread lock, post deletion, member bans (temporary and permanent).

In my experience, meltdown happens mainly because of -
  • Flame baiting by trolls, especially when emotions are high
  • Hyperactive or emotional members having a bad day
IMO solution should be simple -
  • Give 1 warning to members trolling/having a meltdown
  • Thread-ban the member for 1 day thereafter.

Ya'll Nibbiars thats not the solutions which are able to solve this problem. Rather are tempory solutions but don't prevent it from happening. But rather reduces the effect or time. We need a more effective solutions to the problems.
That's what this thread is for mate.

Ya'll Nibbiars but this therad is missing target and rules.

I don't see any objective or mission metioned here.

You need to clarify it properly with a set objectives metioned clearly.

I don't know if this is possible technically.
But how about creating discussion thread and News thread for important topics?
Only verified news goes into the news thread. That way, if the discussion goes out of hand, part of the thread can be nuked?

6 . Bots operating on the forum.

7 . No mechanism to stop this.

8 . Break of communication in the threads.

9 . Off topic posting.

10 . Inflantory comments from foreign memebers.

11 . Not on time actions.

12 . Posting of propaganda post.

13 . Confusing resulting into increase in breakdown.

14 . Lack of information creating even more confusion.
Ya'll Nibbiars and memeber have anger that the foreign memebs4 have been given better treatment than the domestic memebers this also adds to the angers.

If we analyze from users points of view; mainly its a small group of people who start these,

Thing is those people are always in this mode, but when its "bad days" normal people(fence sitters put their weight too). and meltdown happens.

One ways is obviously to have two threads, where we can two threads, one for info other for discussion.

One with info would require clearance.. Then we might be able to save some of our threads, which has basically become useless, due to very low content density.

Downside of these is we will be limiting access to new folks, which is against open sourced internet based forum.

We can kind of decrease its impact if we can have thread based mods who would mainly manages access for common folks for a given thread(like who needs to be upgraded and who needs to be downgraded. We can reduce workload by implementing this only to hot threads.

Mind you discussion thread will have same standards as current ones but info one will have gold standards.

Another thing that causes clutter and its a catalyst to meltdowns as well, is fact that people start repeating same rhetoric with different wordings. Mods needs to control this behavior as well.

And my personal take is if we allow debate(in groups or just 2 guys) would help us in stopping meltdown by diluting the rhetoric of pilled guys.

Most of the meltdowns are regarding PLA propaganda. In my opinion, it's better to not indulge the Wumaos in their game. If they keep replying in the same brain-dead fashion, keep asking disparaging questions into oblivion. Obviously, it's for when your hands are really itching to engage them(it adds redundancy to the thread). Otherwise, ignoring is the best option.
