The Indian Air Force lost another Su-30MKI this afternoon. The aircraft took off from the Lohegaon air base at Pune at 12.45pm, and crashed shortly thereafter. Both pilots ejected safely. The IAF lost its first Su-30 in April 2009, in which both pilots ejected, though one succumbed to injuries sustained during ejection.

Would be important to note whether it was a Russian built or was it built by HAL.

hehe... not enough mig-21 to crash, iaf got lot more bolder and shameless crashing su-30mki. give them anything, they are wonderfully trained to crash.

morning:
ground officer: sir pilots are ready to take off for routine sortie to bomb the test bunker.
chief: very well, let these pilots show their marvel. tell me their story soon.
after 10 minutes.
ground officer: sir! happy to report they successfully took off.
chief: good, then.
ground officer: what else you want. thats the only successful thing happened. he crashed just outside the base.
chief: damn why.
officer: dont know. last radio contact indicates he found scarecrow in field funny. he said rofl. he was the man, lived upto it.
both then sighed.

imo it would be an aberration if it were built by the Ruskies.

The good thing is pilots are safe, machines can be replaced, not the men.

I have seen how local manufacturers in Ludhiana can compromise on quality after few years of good quality supplies of parts, do bribe quality control people without considering the consequences on end product's performance but only concerned about their margins. The fate of any fine indigenous product in India is going to be always uncertain because of prevailing dishonesty at any (unpredictable) level.

Su-30-MKI is a product of same ill manufacturing/maintenance culture we have; which learns its lessons hard way and for short period of time. Though people will save am jumping the gun and should wait for reasons to come out but crash of such a state of the art machine means we are as helpless like a machine operator cursed by Murphy's law that "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong" was at the start of Industrial age. When the world has moved into advance ages any technical snag should be predictable specially of a machine which costs around 50 million a piece.

3 aircraft crash since induction of Su-30in last 10 years ?

Not serious though, Two crashed on 2009 and two purchased to replace them, But its important why these crashes occur, not enough spares ? ..
