The End is Near, Assad resorts to recruiting fat chicks...

This picture shows Syrian National Defence force women who just finished training, standing to attention at their training centre in Wadi al-Dahab, Homs, on Monday. About 500 women are being trained and will help other National Defence force recruits at checkpoints and with other security tasks.

Rebels have run out of support. They can't advance until GCC gives them some money.

Analysis: Israel on high alert over Syrian WMDs

Israel is following the possibility of the transfer of Syria's chemical weapons to radical elements, as its neighbor to the north appears to be gradually approaching a final meltdown

With dozens of storage and production sites for chemical weapons spread out across Syria, any foreign involvement would require extensive planning, intelligence and resources to succeed.

There are two scenarios that Israel deems unacceptable in Syria. The first is a transfer of chemical weapons and advanced strategic missiles to Hezbollah, and the second involves raids by al-Qaida-affiliated rebel groups, like Jabhat al-Nusra, on a Syrian chemical weapons depot.

Neither radical Shi'ite nor extremist Sunni groups will be permitted to lay their hands on unconventional weapons in Syria.

It may also become necessary to inject special forces into the arena, to ensure that sites containing Sarin, mustard gas compounds and VX nerve agents are no longer a threat.

What remains unclear is whether Israel will take the lead, or whether the US will become involved and car

ry out air strikes if necessary. The potential role of the US's regional allies, like Turkey and Jordan, also remains unclear.

Either way, Israel is taking no chances.

It is no coincidence that as Syrian rebels continued to make progress in their war against the regime's forces, the IDF stationed two Iron Dome air defense batteries in the North on Sunday. It seems fair to assume that the move is just one of a series of preparations, most of them covert, for the possibility of escalations with Syria.

Whether the US or Israel end up making a move, the response by President Bashar Assad¹s regime - if it is still able to respond by the time of a strike - will likely be the same.

Missile fire would be directed at Israel and US targets in the region.
Complicating the picture is Iran¹s threat this week that any attack on Syria would be seen by Tehran as an attack on itself. This posturing is designed to deter any intervention in Syrian affairs, but could end up dragging Iran and its proxy Hezbollah into a new conflict with anyone who takes action in Syria.

As long as Obama is in power, the US isn't going to do jack. They will rely on France to bomb Syria as we are the only ones willing to do anything. Apparently we are the de facto EU army.

Obama is not doing anything? They are hauling French military equipment to Mali and giving surveillance support to French ground troops.

U.S. 'backed plan to launch chemical weapon attack on Syria and blame it on Assad's regime'

Leaked emails from defense contractor refers to chemical weapons saying 'the idea is approved by Washington'

Obama issued warning to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad last month that use of chemical warfare was 'totally unacceptable'

Leaked emails have allegedly proved that the White House gave the green light to a chemical weapons attack in Syria that could be blamed on Assad's regime and in turn, spur international military action in the devastated country.

A report released on Monday contains an email exchange between two senior officials at British-based contractor Britam Defence where a scheme 'approved by Washington' is outlined explaining that Qatar would fund rebel forces in Syria to use chemical weapons.

Barack Obama made it clear to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad last month that the U.S. would not tolerate Syria using chemical weapons against its own people.

According to Infowars.com, the December 25 email was sent from Britam's Business Development Director David Goulding to company founder Philip Doughty.

It reads: 'Phil... We've got a new offer. It's about Syria again. Qataris propose an attractive deal and swear that the idea is approved by Washington.

'We'll have to deliver a CW to Homs, a Soviet origin g-shell from Libya similar to those that Assad should have.

'They want us to deploy our Ukrainian personnel that should speak Russian and make a video record.

'Frankly, I don't think it's a good idea but the sums proposed are enormous. Your opinion?

'Kind regards, David.'

Britam Defence had not yet returned a request for comment to MailOnline.

The emails were released by a Malaysian hacker who also obtained senior executives resumés and copies of passports via an unprotected company server, according to Cyber War News.

Dave Goulding's Linkedin profile lists him as Business Development Director at Britam Defence Ltd in Security and Investigations. A business networking profile for Phil Doughty lists him as Chief Operationg Officer for Britam, United Arab Emirates, Security and Investigations.

The U.S. State Department had not returned a request for comment on the alleged emails to MailOnline today at time of publication.

However the use of chemical warfare was raised at a press briefing in D.C. on January 28.

A spokesman said that the U.S. joined the international community in 'setting common redlines about the consequences of using chemical weapons'.

A leaked U.S. government cable revealed that the Syrian army more than likely had used chemical weapons during an attack in the city of Homs in December.

The document, revealed in The Cable, revealed the findings of an investigation by Scott Frederic Kilner, the U.S. consul general in Istanbul, into accusations that the Syrian army used chemical weapons in the December 23 attack.

An Obama administration official who had access to the document was reported as saying: 'We can't definitely say 100 per cent, but Syrian contacts made a compelling case that Agent 15 was used in Homs on Dec. 23.'

Mr Kilner's investigation included interviews with civilians, doctors, and rebels present during the attack, as well as the former general and head of the Syrian WMD program, Mustafa al-Sheikh.

Dr. Nashwan Abu Abdo, a neurologist in Homs, is certain chemical weapons were used. He told The Cable: 'It was a chemical weapon, we are sure of that, because tear gas can't cause the death of people.'
Eye witness accounts from the investigation revealed that a tank launched chemical weapons and caused people exposed to them to suffer nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, delirium, seizures, and respiratory distress.

The symptoms suggest that the weaponized compound Agent-15 was responsible. Syria denied using chemical weapons and said it would never use them against citizens.

Speaking to Pentagon reporters at the time, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said his biggest concern was how the U.S. and allies would secure the chemical and biological weapons sites scattered across Syria and ensure the components don't end up in the wrong hands if the regime falls, particularly under violent conditions.

Government forces and rebels in Syria have both been accused by human rights groups of carrying out brutal warfare in the 22-month-old conflict, which has claimed more than 60,000 lives.

Bodies Of "Executed Men" Discovered In Syria

The bodies of dozens of young men, all apparently executed with gunshots to the head or neck, have been found in a river in the northwestern Syrian city of Aleppo, media cited activists and rebels as saying.According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 65 bodies were found in the Quweiq River in the Bustan al-Qasr neighborhood of Aleppo.

Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera on Tuesday quoted a Free Syrian Army fighter as saying the death count is higher and "must be more than 100," as many more bodies were still being dragged from the water.

The BBC on Tuesday cited diplomats as saying UN envoy Lakhdar Brahimi told a closed-door UN Security Council session hours after the find that he had no progress in Syria to report, and added that the government's legitimacy had been "seriously, probably irreparably, damaged."

Activists accused forces loyal to President Bashar Assad of killing the victims, but a Syrian government official said many of the victims had been abducted earlier and blamed "terrorists" for the abductions and killings.

At least 60,000 people have been killed in Syria's conflict since March 2011, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay has said, citing new analysis released by the United Nations in early January.

Russia has faced heavy international criticism over its refusal to back UN sanctions against Syria, its last ally in the Arab world, over what it called the pro-rebel bias of some resolutions proposed by western nations. Moscow denies it is backing President Bashar Assad and says it is concerned the Syrian president's enforced departure would only worsen the conflict.

Obama Authorizes Additional Aid for Syria

January 30 (RIA Novosti) US President Barack Obama announced Tuesday he has authorized an additional $155 million in humanitarian aid for the people of Syria."The relief we send doesn't say `Made in America,' but make no mistake, our aid reflects the commitment of the American people," Obama said in a video addressing the Syrian people, which was posted on the White House website Tuesday.

The new funding brings the total US humanitarian aid to Syria to $365 million over the past two years, White House officials said.

The United Nations (UN) has estimated that more than 60,000 Syrians have been killed since the uprising there began in March 2011.

Approximately 2.5 million people are displaced inside of Syria, and more than 678,000 people have fled to neighboring countries, UN officials estimate.

On Monday UN officials said that only a small percentage has been donated toward a $1.5 billion aid target for Syria.

In the video, Obama called on other nations to step forward. "I also call on the international community to do more to help these Syrians in need, and to contribute to the latest UN humanitarian appeal."

Obama also had sharp language for the Syrian government. "For nearly two years, the Assad regime has waged a brutal war against the Syrian people, murdering innocent men, women and children in their homes, in bread lines and at universities. In the face of this barbarism, the United States has joined with nations around the world in calling for an end to the Assad regime."

"The Syrian people will have their chance to forge their own future," Obama said. "And they will continue to find a partner in the United States of America."

Obama said the additional assistance would be used for food, clean water, clothing, stoves, medicine, immunizations for children, health care for victims of sexual violence, and field hospitals for the wounded.

Israeli jets reportedly attack convoy on Lebanon-Syria border

Israeli jets reportedly attack convoy on Lebanon-Syria border

Lebanese army says several sorties of IAF fighters over the last 24 hours; unnamed sources say convoy carried weapons

Israeli warplanes attacked a target on the Lebanese-Syrian border overnight Tuesday, foreign media reported on Wednesday. While some reports said the purported strike was carried out on the Syrian side of the border, according to one source the target was a weapons convoy that had crossed from Syria into Lebanon.

The reports come amid rising concern in Israel and the West regarding the sizable chemical weapons stockpile in the hands of an increasingly embattled Syrian regime.

Lebanese officials said a dozen Israeli warplanes violated Lebanese airspace on Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday, flying close to the ground in several sorties over southern Lebanon.

The Israeli military and the Prime Minister's Office had no comment.

A Lebanese army statement said the last of the sorties was at 2 a.m. Wednesday. It said four warplanes, which flew in over the southernmost coastal town of Naqoura, flew for several hours over villages in south Lebanon before leaving Lebanese airspace.

The Lebanese army said similar flights by eight other warplanes were conducted Tuesday, but added that it had no knowledge of an airstrike.

Reuters cited an unnamed Western diplomat and anonymous security source saying the planes had attacked a target near the Lebanese border with Syria.

"There was definitely a hit in the border area," the source told the news agency.

The target of the attack was a weapons convoy, the French agency AFP reported, citing an unnamed security source.

Israel has been deeply concerned that chemical weapons from Syria could make its way into the hands of the south-Lebanon-based Hezbollah terror group due to the chaos of the Syrian civil war, and has said on several occasions that the transfer of chemical weapons to non-state actors, especially Hezbollah, would be a casus belli.

Another chief fear among Israeli security officials is that Hezbollah could get its hands on Syrian SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles. If that were to happen, it would change the balance of power in the region and greatly hinder Israel's ability to conduct air sorties in Lebanon.

Israel believes that Damascus obtained a battery of SA-17s from Russia after an alleged Israeli airstrike in 2007 that destroyed an unfinished Syrian nuclear reactor.

Israel Military Intelligence Chief Aviv Kochavi is in Washington for consultations at the Pentagon, including with Joint Chiefs of Staff head Martin Dempsey.

Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom said Sunday that such transfer of arms to Hezbollah "would be crossing a line that would demand a different approach."

The Lebanese army report did not mention if the planes entered Syrian territory, although the area of Lebanon where the flights reportedly took place borders southern Syria. The report of the flights was not corroborated by an Israeli source.

Israeli violations of Lebanese airspace are not uncommon, but Beirut officials say they have increased in the past few days.

On Tuesday, Air Force chief Amir Eshel said Israel needed to be wary of both conventional and non conventional weapons finding their way out of Syria.

"There is in Syria an enormous arsenal of weapons, some state of the art and some nonconventional. All of it could find its way to our borders and not just to our backyards," he said.

Israel strikes at Syria-Lebanon border, source... JPost - Defense

The sources, who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the issue, had no further information about what might have been hit or where precisely the attack happened, but the news website Al-Monitor quoted unnamed sources as saying that the target had been an arms convoy in Syria, close to the Lebanon border.
