What he mean by that is that if Russia attack France then NATO (which is almost = to "US") will come in against Russia. And Moscow will burn (this part may be a little bit harsh Armand)?
Reminds me of Saakashvili or Georgia.

We don't need NATO to take on Russia. They couldn't defeat Napoleaon in the field and they certainly can't now with their 30yo rust army.
If we accept your fairy tales, will you be happy?

Russia is only there to evacuate its personnel when the time comes. If they wanted to make a show of force they would have brought the Kuznetsov battle group. Not a rusted Blask Sea flotilla like this.
The Russians have a base in Syria, so they quite legitimately, with the permission of the Syrian Government, can enter their fleet there. And he wasn't rusty. But this solution would cool down hot heads, generals from the attack. No one wants to interfere with Russia. Calculate the force is an ungrateful thing to do. This is a political step, not the military.

Syria's chemical cocktail mix: Obama trying to stop a sarin gas release - Atlanta Top News | Examiner.com

On Tuesday, Jan. 8, The New Yorker gave a graphic account of what can happen to someone walking around unprotected when sarin gas is released or travels via the wind. And Syria may be the next deathly location site chosen where it is used following the Tokyo Metro gassing of 1996 and Saddam Hussein's gassing of his enemies in the 80s.

The New York Times reported that Syrian troops appeared to be mixing chemicals at two different storage sites and some fear that the weapons of mass destruction being created (WMDs) is the deadly nerve gas sarin.

Bashar al-Assad could order the weapons he has to be used, which some experts believe to be sarin gas, putting the two 500-pound bombs airborne in the space of two hours. And that gas would impact people ill-equipped to respond quickly enough, or with the needed antidote.

Russian Navy Holds Syria Exercises

"A tactical group of Black Sea Fleet
warships headed by the cruiser
Moskva will undertake exercises in the
eastern sector of the Mediterranean
Sea," the Ministry said. "The tanker
Ivan Bubnov has fuelled the ships and
emergency drills have been carried
out. On January 10 the tanker filled its
fuel and water tanks and food stores at
the Cyprus port of Larnaka."

Ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet
and Baltic Fleets are to start exercises
off the coast of Syria the Russian
Defense Ministry said on Friday.

A Baltic Fleet group consisting of the
patrol vessel Yaroslav Mudry and
tanker Lena will dock at Valetta on
Malta for storing and to allow the crew
to rest, the Ministry said. The ships
will then head for the eastern
Mediterranean, where the two ships
will practice stores transfer at sea in
day and night and the Yaroslav Mudry
will carry out anti-submarine warfare
drills.
Meanwhile the navy's large frigate
Severomorsk will visit the Greek port
of Suda during an anti-piracy mission
to the Gulf of Aden from January
14-18. "Russian Naval Infantry soldiers
will visit a NATO training center to get
additional training" during the visit,
the Ministry said.
The Russian Navy maintains a small
base at Tartus on Syria's
Mediterranean coast. Syria is
currently locked in a civil war
between government forces and
rebels that the UN estimates has cost
the lives of at least 30,000 people,
while other estimates put the death
toll at around twice that number.

France does not recognise the Assad government, so they are illegitimately there without the permission of the SNC which has only authorised the French fleet. As a courtesy we will allow them to evacuate their personnel, but if they try anything we will be on them. They are quite rusty.

This I know. The government Assad is legitimate because it was the favourites by the will of the people and in accordance with international norms at it is legal. And all things are to overthrow the authorities by illegal means is a coup (revolution, counterrevolution, putsch). The Soviet Union, Western countries, almost 10 years is not recognized, although there was already a functioning Government. And here, Syrian rebels not created any institution of power, and they have already recognized the West because they are so advantageous. All violations of international norms, all leading to the same wrong actions by other countries. As an example: it was impossible to recognize, as sovereign countries - nor Kosovo nor Abkhazia.

The Assad regime is illegitimate having lost the faith of the people by massacring them. My government has denounced his rule and reserves the right to intercede on behalf of the legitimate ruling body of Syria, the SNC. When legal ruling parties seek our assistance in stablisation, we act. Mali is the latest example, Libya and Cote d'Ivoir before it. We have an obligation to preserve our interests in former colonies. Assad made the choice to slaughter, now he has lost control.

Syria is a sovereign state and a member of the United Nations. She was no longer a colony. All from French claim of the old interests of the ridiculous. It is as if Britain demanded their rights in India. Non-compliance with norms leads to a chaos..

It is sovereign under the rule of the SNC. if they request our assistance, we are obliged to give it to stop the bloodshed. All of our colonies are part of the French sphere unless they wish nothing to do with us.

If the legitimate government of India requests British assistance, they are well within their right to give it. The norm is not to slaughter your people. We intend to see that end.
