Terror threat to Dalai Lama and monasteries in Himachal

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, Karmapa Lama and 18 Buddhist monasteries located in different parts of Himachal Pradesh are facing a threat from terrorist organisations, Himachal Pradesh director general of police B. Kamal Kumar said on Thursday.

After the serial bomb blasts in Bodh Gaya, terror threat looms large on Himachal Pradesh, particularly Dharamshala, where the Dalai Lama and Karmapa Lama reside. Dharamshala is being considered one of the most sensitive areas in Himachal Pradesh as the government-in-exile functions from here and a number of Chinese spies have been arrested in the past from this town.

"We have received three alerts from IB about the possible attack on Buddhist monasteries and on the Dalai Lama. The terrorist organisations have threatened to blow the monasteries. We have beefed up the security at monasteries located in Kangra, Mandi, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Sirmour districts," Kumar said.

The DGP said the Dalai Lama is not only facing a threat from the terrorist outfits but also from a sect (Shugden) of his own community.
"The security cover of the Dalai Lama has been strengthened and we have established barricades near his residence and around monasteries," Kumar said.

If u check Shugden's website they claim to be a minority persecuted by Dalai's sect as heresy.

Another Sunni-vs-Shia type of drama?
