This is not going to help already declining tourist industry in Egypt. Before rise of ISIS, people were laughing at the prospect of Islamist damaging ancient Egyptian monuments. Now it's a very real possibility.

North Sinai is out of control. Good job, President Sisi.

There are days when the locals in Sinai must regret the days of Israeli “yokke”.

To be fair President Morsi was no better. Unbelievable s**t happened in the country since people elected MB instead of democratic forces.

Al-Sisi ordered the armed forces to end the insurgency within three months after an attack on a mosque in North Sinai last month that killed more than 300 people in Egypt's worst militant attack.

Egyptian security forces on Sunday killed nine suspected militants in a shootout in the Nile Delta province of Sharqiya, the interior ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said security forces had received information that the militants were using a farm in Sharqiya as a hideout and were trained there to use weapons to carry out attacks in north Sinai.

It said their attacks had resulted in the deaths of a number of police and army personnel.

“Upon raiding the farm, security forces were surprised by gunshots in their direction which were dealt with, resulting in the killing of nine,” the ministry said.

It said it was still trying to determine the identity of the suspects. Weapons and ammunition were found at the farm.

In a separate raid in Cairo on a “terrorist hideout”, police arrested nine other suspected militants on Sunday, the ministry said in the same statement. Those arrested all have ties with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, it said.

Security forces have battled Islamist militants in the mainly desert region stretching from the Suez Canal eastwards to the Gaza Strip and Israel, since 2013. Militants there have killed hundreds of police and soldiers.

CAIRO — Militants killed two people, including a policeman, at a bank in the town of El-Arish in egypt's North Sinai on Thursday, security sources said, and a separate explosion in the region killed an army officer and five soldiers.

The militants in El-Arish fired a rocket and shot at police who were guarding the bank, the sources said. The police fired back but the militants fled the scene.

egypt's interior ministry could not immediately be reached for comment on the incident.

Later, the army said an officer and five soldiers had been killed when their vehicle was hit by the blast from a bomb militants planted in North Sinai. The troops were carrying out a raid on a militant position when they were attacked.

No exact location was given for the explosion.

Several hundred soldiers and policeman have been killed.

Attacks have now expanded to civilian targets including Christians.

An attack on a mosque in the village of Al Rawdah last month killed more than 300 people, egypt's deadliest such attack. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered the armed forces to end the insurgency within three months after the mosque attack.

very impressive display of Egyptian military power against the islamist terrorists in Sinai.

Situation was not acceptable any more after the destruction of a Black Hawk helicopter on the ground.
