It is feasible. IN has already decided to reduce requirements to 36 from 57 due to fund issue. That means somewhere they do understand they need an indigenous solution to keep cost down and get their objectives.

If you compare the cost of Import with the projected program cost for tedbf it will definitely fall under it.

IAF can join later the only reason to worry is whether we have resources to put it through prototype phase at the earliest.
if IN has reduced requirements from 57 to 36, then there is no way that tedbf will be feasible.

150 jets were break-even for this project (100 for N and 50 for AF). now you can't start a new fighter program for a requirement of mere 36 jets.

probably IAF is banking on 200 mwf and 114 mmrca. then they will also have required numbers (272+36+123+114+200 = 745). so either we've to scrap mmrca or tedbf/orca.

I was little bit wrong.

without mmrca also we will have enough numbers as amca mk1 will roll out in the meantime.
so actually we will only need a replacement of MKI and that also won't start to phase out before 2035/2040 or so.

I think IAF understands that okaying ORCA means further delay (based on Tejas experience) and cuts in Mmrca orders, this will weaken squadron strength. Hence they are adopting no-risk option.

If TEDBF matures in stated time then IAF will have options to buy Navy version of TEDBF or to ask for weight reduction for air force which won't take much time.

Meanwhile IAF can purchase some Mmrca squadrons and maintain squadron strength

Even if N want 150 they don't have money to fund the development
Nobody in India had money to fund anything right now.. Even Mark1A & LCH orders are stuck. 126 reduced to 36.

But still, Mig-29K will need replacing. 2 carriers will require 80 jets. And they're still pushing for 3 carriers.

Which is more advanced MWF or TEDBF/ORCA I think MWF because Mr Nambiar said that MWF will incorporate the technology of AMCA and TEDBF/ORCA was supposed to take flight before MWF

36 will be for the import route and not its total requirements.

The total requirements for 3 aircraft carriers plus airstrips on andaman islands from where IN might operate will be well over 100+

Is ? Both of them are on paper .

twin engine aircrafts have more thrust so they will carry more weapons , and produce enough electricity for bigger radars ( with more T-R modules ) and more avionics and sensors .

Amca technologies means radars and avonics Which may be common for all our future jets .

Then why TEDBF/ORCA was predicted to take flight before MWF ? I think TEDBF/ORCA was going to be twin engine version of Tejas MK1 FOC but MWF is an entirely new aircraft

If they intend to focus on MWF and AMCA and concentrate all their recourses and energy to make it happen within desired timeline that will be great,if we achieve it, rest assured it will revolutionize our aerospace engineering and industry

Hvt's response on tedbf's future,

TEDBF Navy doesn't want imports. Committed to Atmanirbhar. Old RFI study closed a long time back.

TEDBF. There is no other plan.

The only thing that matters is AoN (DAC approval or Acceptance of Necessity) Only TEDBF & Tejas Mk-2. Nothing else.

Naval Tejas Mk-2 requirement is upgraded to TEDBF IAF Tejas Mk-2 requirement is upgraded to MWF

I'm keeping with times

Tedbf is your MWF with a twin engine configuration and refined aerodynamics. They have studied it before for airforce but later moved on to AMCA back then it was MCA.

AMCA will come up by 2035+ but tedbf and orca can come up within 5-10 years.

We have a total requirement for 3 carriers can safely assume over 100+ jets are needed for that and then air strips in andaman which will be used by Sukhoi 30 armed with Brahmos for now and later IN.

So by the time AMCA -N will come up navy will require more fighter jets.

And with plans to buy hardly 72 around Rafale we need to field orcas too against Pakis if they get J-31 etc.
