If this is true.. and Badakshan falls to Northern alliance.. then supply lines will be secure and Taliban are in for some real fight...
I think so, once the resistance gains momentum in neighboring provinces Taliban are in for a tough fight.

I guess by then winter will set in and fighting stops.

The resistance is using BM 21 GRAD effectively on Taliban.
If the report is true and Talib forces got trapped in a kill zone inside the valley, the 2000 Talibs KIA may very well be true if Grad is in action at those trapped forces. There is no better weapon than MBRLs to annihilate enemies trapped in any position!

Two Battalions of Pakistani SSG joined the Taliban against Panjshir resistance, 4 cobra helicopters, mine clearing team and other support staff also included.

Still Panjshir resisted the foreign invasion and stood their ground. Kudos !
This is what I mentioned yesterday

Mahashay , mbrl are notoriously ineffective in mountain warfare .
2 cases .
1) soviet afgan war : here same bm 21 grad was used by soviet to destroy mujahedin , result was abysmal.
Reason is mbrl is a area weapon, it targets a general area but it is not accurate .
"In same panjsher, soviet army spent divisions yet the might of ussr could not overpower it "
The mujahdin would hide in tunnels or caves rendering it aka mbrl highly ineffective.
Only options were either use of 122 mm artillery guns or mi 8 or mi 25 gunships which could pin point enemy positions
2) kargil war : here indian army faced what soviet army faced in afgan although on a smaller scale .
Here too mbrl were ineffective e hence bofors or 130 mm artillery and mi 8 gunships were only options.
Here too mbrl would do minimal damage, it would scatter over a large area on the targeted mountains .
Plus like mujahedin in afgan , pakis too shot down some mi 8s using anza missiles.

I'd have guessed MBRLs to be rather deadly considering they could cause landslides on arid mountains and hiding in caves counter productive due to the risk of getting buried alive.

That is true in case enemy is bunkered down in a defensive position in mountain. Here as the story goes, the Talibs got trapped in a valley, not in mountains.
