20000 is a good fraction of the entirety of Taliban.
Rough estimates put their cadre around 75000
Given there are no resistance elsewhere, Talibs can easily divert forces to Panjsher. Also, Talibs are worried that if NA survives too long, it can find support and even ceate a route to Tajikistan to prolong the war.

There is also a factor that Talib leadership needs to divert attention of the more militant groups among them toward something they can smash and kill. There is already signs of fracture between the Hwqani, Baradar and Taliban's military wing. A fracture between them can be bloody and delay their plan for tacit recognition from the Chinese Biden.

ideally yes.
But as things stand today, we shouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing opeds in NYT & WaPo suggesting WH should give aid to taliban govt to support them in “taliban’s” war on terror against ISIS-K. Taliban anyway has access to qatar and turkey for spare parts and technicians

basing this on murican media desperately projecting ISIS-K as the new big bad wolf, over the past week.

essentially CIA’s Pakistan playbook might repeat itself.
Already started.. in some aspects them muricans so predictable.

Secretary Cohen: "I think the Taliban are going to need our help. Economically to be sure, but they may come under severe attack by Al Qaeda or ISIS-K. They may need intelligence that they don't have, that we may be able to provide them under certain conditions

Am I the only one that thinks that this is a different situation to Taliban 1.0? I think in a few weeks all major powers will recognise the Taliban govt and India will follow soon after

I seriously doubt India will be doing anything to support NA materially.
Start from Turkey and Qatar, both have been approached by Taliban to operationalise Kabul airport

Taliban discusses running Kabul airport with Turkey and Qatar

India cant do nothing substantial for NA without the involvement of Iran.

It was already planned by the Democrats. Legitimise Taliban by making ISIS and AQ the new boogeymen.

Nefarious planning by US I would say. Hope that ears and eyes at New Delhi are open 24/7. US has played the gambit of de-stabilising the region hoping for Iran, Russia, India and China absorbing the collateral damage in return.

You could have said this in English as well instead of Chinese

Wow, never knew that "Kumari" was a popular Chinese name!
