More targets most likely, shooting down a plane or even destroying it on the ground, preferably right on the runway so that it becomes unusable would be the the most desired outcome for whoever has planned this attack.
Easily done apparently. I heard someone on the radio saying that a heavy machine gun in one of the high buildings adjacent to the airport could destroy aircraft inside the airport.

Actually, that is wrong. It is easier to claim and retain territory from Pakistan than dealing with Talibans.

Pakistani army might sound strong on paper, but it is headed by group of greedy bureaucrats. They would scoot in first sign of trouble. In fact, given Pakistan has more visible military assets, for a military like USA, it would be easier to destroy Pakistan's war fighting ability than it is for to search and destroy the spread out Talibs. Also, Pakistan has enormous fault lines which are kept under control by iron fist of army. Once Pak army gets liquidated, all hell will break lose where Pakistan as en entity would cease to exist.

Further, Pakistan resistance, if any happens, wont have any supply line or support system beyond the borders like Pakistan was for Talibs. So, if Rawalpindi gives in, most of resistance would be gone.

Even during war on terror fiasco, had US been more forceful from the beginning with Pakistan, the Talibs would have been finished off by now.

But, western deep state - for whatever reason likes Pak army and ISI.
From the article:

"It is critical that we vigorously consider our relationship
with Pakistan and recognize that Islamabad is a willing and
able partner in certain areas, while hostile in others. To be
sure, accepting this paradigm does not mean abandoning Pakistan
altogether. At stake in the region are some of America's most
vital national security interests, including ensuring that
neither Afghanistan nor Pakistan serves as a safe haven for
global terrorists, keeping Pakistan's nuclear weapons out of
the hands of terrorists and preventing war between India and
Pakistan that could potentially go nuclear.
These interests warrant continued outreach and cooperation
with Islamabad."

This was a US congressmen. I think they are mainly concerned about destabilization and India Pak war. That last part irritates me the most, how they self-righteously decide India and Pakistan can't go to war no matter what due to possible nuclear wear. Pak benefits 10x more from avoiding total war than India.

All of the points that Zalmay Khalizad, the American ambassador to Afghanistan, made were correct.

Another blast now, hundreds of Isis-K jihadis have entered Kabul
I guess it really is some group which doesn't like the idea of Talibs gaining Kabul and Afghanistan as a whole without a fight very much. Had it been the work of Talib and CIA, 2-3 explosions would have been enough for Biden to call quits. But, now it seems that some outside the syllabus questions have come into play.

Who knows, may be Iran or Russia playing dirty?!!! Both of them knows how to nurse a grudge afterall.
