Maybe this was the prize to leave the foreign nationals and airport untouched.
Could be, doesn't seem worth it in my opinion. Why don't they just let the Taliban take up the perimeter, so the remaining troops can board their transport aircraft? The Taliban would be more than happy to take over and drive out the Afghan civilians who are causing a hitch in the evacuation processes.

Better yet, since America is the best, and the best, and the best!!!! (and they are, at least militarily, for now), they should prepare a hidden dirt airstrip near Kabul. Perhaps the Taliban might even be open to the idea that they use Bagram for this in return for something. Even better.

Land two or three C-17's there with a small force protection using the cover of night. Let the remaining forces in Kabul fall back and board the helicopters. Fly there, get out, burn the choppers and board the C-17's. In this way at least they are mostly clear from civilians.

Kinda like Operation Eagle Claw. Then again, considering that the gods have favored America with the impossible, a President more incompetent than Jimmy Carter, I am inclined to think that such a thing will go exactly like how Eagle Claw did under Carter, a massive fucking failure.

I remember when Modi inaugrated parliament built by India in Afghanistan , it was a dead investment and it turned out to be... Now we are left with gone bucks and burden of these Afghans on our land.

It will be wise to only get our own people out and be done with this shit forever. Talibs and pprks will come for us... So will kangladeshis and other muslim terror outfits working inside india.

It will be better if we take a stand and work to neutralize them rightaway.
You must understand the different faces with which the diplomacy is carried out . You are only looking at Modi inaugurated the parliament building but fact is while doing this work only you can carry out and support your spy network. Since 2014 , we haven't seen any major bomb blast in India except few in J&K is out come of effective security environment which can not work. unless you have different assets in different countries to get information it is not possible to avert the possible attack.
It will take lot of time explain this but do not go by general rant that India lost it's assets in Afgan . we have already redeemed it in my view.

Do you have data how much have been escorted out ... Tajikistan has received many helis and tucano etc.

Their airforce should had evacuated out all of the assets right away.
Apparently, the Taliban was not able to capture the ENTIRE AAF fleet, which numbered about 200 aircraft, though not all were operational anyway when the U.S. watchdog that keeps tabs on war spending there last checked up on it.

According to one report, at least 22 military airplanes and 24 helicopters made it across the border into Uzbekistan.

According to the latest quarterly report from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), which may not be the latest, but is more reliable than rumors and videos floating on social media, the AAF had 167 available aircraft among the 211 aircraft in its total inventory.

Of 56 Mi-17 helicopters in its inventory at the end of June, 32 were “usable and in country,” according to SIGAR’s latest inventory of the Afghan fleet. The AAF had 43 usable MD 530Fs of 50 and 33 of 45 UH-60s ready to fly. Another 37 UH-60s purchased for the AAF remained in strategic reserve in the United States when the SIGAR report was published July 30. Three of those were to be delivered by July 23 and another three MD 530s to replace battle damaged aircraft were purchased but not delivered. 25 helicopters were out of country for repair.

From what is reported, 46 are in Tajikistan.

What will be done with them? Uzbekistan and Tajikistan can always sign a contract with Embraer for spares.

Those aircraft are not America's anymore, they're the property of Afghanistan.

For now, I think they'll be impounded. You can bet the Taliban once they've finished setting up their government and put things in place will surely ask for them back. At that stage it's up to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan whether they want to establish relations with Afghanistan.........I guess the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan now........... or not. If not, then I think the statute of finders keepers implies that it belongs to the Uzbeks and the Tajiks now.

So in the last 2 days Modi has publicized 2 interactions he has had with his counterparts, specifically on the Afghanistan issue. Israel and Russia.
Wonder whats cooking. Any threat perception? Any signals to be sent?

I'm very curious about the result of this convo. It would seem initially that Russia is on China/Pak's side on this, but there are conflicting reports about Russia complaining about Talibs going into central Asia. So who knows.
Just Today:
CIA Director William Burns met Taliban's Abdul Ghani Baradar in Kabul while PM Modi held a 45 minutes discussion with Russian President Putin.

If Putin is fine.. India should permanently station a IAF squadron in Tajikistan.. just so we have some firepower in case we need it in Afghanistan...

I don't think Putin actually like Talibunnies, he is just hedging his bets when negotiating with them because he hates the US even more. I think most likely they talked about protecting Tajikistan from Talibs or other Jihadis that might feel emboldened now.

Yes.. Putin is not comfortable with Talibs, for fear of Islamist spill over.. But, is trying to develop a "Live and let live" relationship with them..
