I think that's bullshit. Khalil Haqqani is the one who spread this, said Massoud Jr pledged to him and Taliban on a call to him. I would rather believe someone who told me that he shit a live chicken in the toilet than this Haqqani bastard.

Cruise missiles against moving targets like Talibs are useless.

They will move into their caves. Best bet would be drone strikes for which we will need access to Afghan soil or that of its immediate neighbours.

A BrahMos will cross Pakistan within 4.5 minutes, the best SAM Pakistan has, HQ-16 has a range of 40km (80 diameter coverage).
If we assume that the missile passes directly over the HQ-16 SAM, the SAM will have a reaction time of 1.2 0.6 minutes.

In short -
- Can they scramble jets and shoot it down? Probably no because their response time is not better than 4 minutes.
- Can their AD shoot it down? Depends, low probability but possible if they get lucky. This is assuming BrahMos is flying a high trajectory to achieve max range.

Correction:-

Since 3 Mach speed can only be intercepted in head-on chase mode, only chance of downing a BrahMos is if HQ-16 launches the missile before BrahMos crosses it. So the reaction time of HQ-16 drops to 1/2, that is 0.6 minutes, or approximately 36 seconds.

Conclusion:- Nearly impossible.

Economics answer it better. They won't shoot a million-dollar missile to shoot down a 3 million-dollar missile. They would rather sit back on their asses.
