I so wish this comes true but the impunity with which these guys have operated for the past two decades suggests otherwise.USA practically keeps this country alive (not the BatMunchers) thru aid, IMF Bailouts, World Bank soft loans and so on, and they screwed them over.

that is the reason , this scenario can get played out. after all taliban are installed by usa only. to use strategic depth you do not need whole of afghanistan. part of afghanistan will do the job.

This is a question worth pondering upon, isn't it? what is qatar getting out of all of it?

no heavy mining machinery will ever be able to operate in hinterlands of Afghanistan, that's a given. it doesn't take more than one mining worker to rub a local tribesman the wrong way and the whole tribe will be gunning to cut the throats of everybody in the mining operation in that area. so large scale mining will never take place in afghanistan.

whatever minerals that are going to come out of afghanistan are hand dug by locals from the caves.

so why is qatar doing all this, has been doing all this for past 25 years.

i'd say to reach parity with saudi royal family, just like pakistan seeks parity with India.
if not financial parity with saudi royal family they atleast get seat at the high table rubbing shoulders with world powers, influencing their decisions, accumulate power at global diplomacy. power and influence seems to be qatar's game.
