This whole situation started back in 1979 during the Soviet-Afghan war when USA and Zbigniew Brzezinski in particular, wanted to create as they put it "The Soviet Union's Vietnam in Afghanistan".

Though there were some parallels, overall Brzezinski ultimately failed in his objective. What he actually succeeded in was to create and fund the rise of the Muslim Jihadis and this continues unabated even today - ISIS, Taliban and others being a prime example.

Any update on the situation at the airport? From the looks of it (that C-17 video) perimeter of the airport has been breached, orderly evacuation will not be possible now. Also the Taliban have entered the city in force now. US sending in an extra 1000 troops means the evacuations are not completely going to plan. Although i don't think Taliban will directly attack the fleeing foreign nationals, IMO they will not miss this opportunity to humiliate the US further before they finally leave.

They have set up checkpoints all around the city, so no one else can reach the airport anymore. And I think they'll definitely not let the people in the airport just leave. Shit's about to go down.

Commercial flights are down and the US has advised people to not come to the airport as of now.
