Super Weapon: China Reveals Deadly New Armor-Piercing Gun

China has revealed the world’s most powerful armor-piercing gun canon that could be used for the next generation of Chinese main battle tanks. China revealed the world’s most powerful Jeffrey Lin and P.W. Singer 120mm/125mm armor-piercing gun cannon.

The gun prototype in comparison to other similar models displays the highest, range, velocity, and penetration power in the world, as stated by the 127th Ordinance Institute of the Central Northern University.

The prototypes’ barrel length is 7.5 meters with a length to caliber ratio of at least 60:1. The multipurpose cannon supposedly has a muzzle velocity of 2,000m per second for armored piercing fin stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds, Popular Science reported.
The cannon gun will be put for a full test by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and could be used for the next generation of Chinese main battle tanks.

According to Lin and Singer it may be possible that this new military hardware “could provide indirect fire support with cannon launched missiles and shells for Chinese forces, such as distant, networked infantry units calling in strikes on enemy positions (though the turret size and recoil mechanisms means that the claimed maximum 40km range is likely theoretical),” media reported.

Lin and Singer also note that should the gun prototype turn out to be successful, it would be a good example of how the Chinese defense sector is now collaborating with academia when it comes to military R&D projects.

Is this something worth or just another chest thumping of a copy-paste stuff? For example like Aircraft Carrier killer missile.

I would like to see it integrated in a tank....but yeah sounds like something .... if it really is powerful, you'll have trouble integrating it.
Anyway our army has no idea of a tank philosophy ...... they just want armata.

Looks like China just won WW3 in advance.

On topic: Timing of this gun's is hardly surprising. Chinese fan boys were feeling sad after Armata so now they have something to cheer for. As for its effectiveness and usefulness, ever since CM-400 killed INS Vikramaditya, I am too scared to even think straight.

Also, China is probably the only nation in the world that offers 155/54 artillery for export.

Difference between chinese army and Indian army is simple. They will take ownership of this gun iorn out the defects and get a working model out, But IA will grind to dust a perfect MBT like Arjun in never ending trials without giving orders in decent numbers.

One cant sprint without walking is something never understood by Indian defence forces.

But whenver DRDO is free of armed forces interference like in the field of missiles and N weapons they did a decent job.

Somebody had to say that.

I like the way the nuclear weapons program was kept isolated. DRDO got to know only the form factor of the strategic package and they only had to work on the RV. DRDO had to remain content with the non nuclear part of the Bomb despite the fact that the Implosion mechanism and Trigger are from DRDO which would basically take a lot of the part of a bomb, by way of volume. Neatly managed internal controls. And the armed forces were never even allowed to look into the processes. They just got the final thing already mounted on the delivery systems. The armed forces started the true part of the relay race only after the full system was ready for induction. That way they focused well on the real deliverable, expected off them.

Actually even L K Advani knew nothing of the tests. Imagine the man who was to be the PM had he not himself proposed the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. I think only Devi Lal and LKA ever proposed the name of somebody else and then both never got their chance to be the PM. The secrecy was so strict that LKA knew nothing, despite the fact that the go ahead for the tests was nearly 2 years before the real tests, in I think the 13 day govt. of ABV. Nobody knew nothing they did not absolutely need to know. Its practically the same today too.

About the Gun above there is no reason why it is not an effective weapon on its own though its integration will be a challenge. But then most new tank guns are 55 cal already. So putting a 60 cal should be do-able. The recoil should be huge. Probably significant construction will have to be based on Titanium. And the Chinese have the money of that kind.

China has established a robust defense industrial base. They are gradually overcoming from the copy-paste job and moving towards innovation. If chinese are producing weapons that satisfy the requirements of PLA, it is more than enough. On the contrary, we are years behind when it comes to military(weapon) capability.
Hope someday we will learn from China.

Years behind but we also started later. One of the main draw backs of a democracy is that they move slowly but then the advantage is that they are more stable and better able to relieve pressures. Lets give India another 20 years and I agree if we still haven't managed to sort out our stuff and mostly caught up, we can start talking about our massive faults. For now everything seems to be rapidly improving and we are at the place you would expect given our unique situation.

Further China really isn't our main enemy, we just have some issues with them. On the battle front that counts, we're absolutely dominating Pakistan. China has a MUCH bigger problem in the USA lead coalition to contain it. In that respect China is also decades behind.
