FGFA is an Indian Variant of PAK FA, a two seater PAKFA to be specific. Indian already has SU 30 mki which is also a Variant of flanker, with Israel and french systems, It turns out to be the best flanker ever produced. It is too early to compare FGFA and PAKFA. Let the prototype fly first.

FGFA is our own twine seater, variant of PAKFA as I said. Don't forget its a joint venture. Pakistan and China both, won't be fielding FGFA in this decade at least..
since India more or less financed this project this may never be possible , i am sure all the agreements define the partnership, also since FGFA is going to be made per indian specifications we may modify with other if we want like we did the sukhois i am not sure of the details of this point but it would make sense to have this clause?

but there are reports confirming chinese invovlement in developing their FGFA and they may be moving fast
Yes they must be involved in such developments. It is very obvious that they won't be sitting duck when its neighbor is involved in one such project. however, you should also understand that it needs multi decades of experience to develop a fight gen Fighter. They have funds but they lack support in the international Arena when it comes to defence equipments. How do you expect a country to produce FGFA, which could not even field out a competitor to 40 year old F 16?

Yes,

We can modify it to cater the requirements of IAF. It will be MKIed just like Sukhoi 30 MKI.

Let us hope that stealth is not compromised while making into a twin seater.

Also important is the time factor .It should not happen that Russia goes on inducting
dozens of Pak fa planes while we struggle with our FGFA

Many reports suggest that India will opt for 50 PAKFA and 200 FGFAs. If those reports are true then I think its not a problem even if the FGFA gets delayed a little. We will at least be able to induct PAKFA more or less, at the same time Russia does. If we are able to get 20 PAKFA by 2020, I think it would be a great achievements. 10 years is quite a long time now...

PAK FA with 'Brahmos'

The PAK FA chief designer Alexander Davydenko said, that during development work, the fight between T-50 and F-22 was modelled with good outcome for T-50. He also informed that the new avionics, weapon systems are already exist but will appeared latter since the 1st prototype is not ready for actually weapon carring. The 2015 as the end term for starting serial supply was confirmed too.
Most inportant he said, T-50 will be built together with India 'in paritet principle 50 and 50%', and can be equipped with 'Brahmos' missiles. It's first official confirmation about possibility of 'Brahmos' installation on PAK FA/FGFA fighter. Hiwever, it's not clear whether these missiles would be installed on the internal or external bays. Anyway, it can be 1-2 missiles only due to heavy habitus of 'Brahmos' supersonic missile.

He also denied any negotiations with Chinese about PAK FA.
Early, the Sukhoi chief Pogosyan informed that KNAAPO modernizes its manufacturing capabilities for T-50 production. He confirmed too that the only partner on PAK FA proram in India. Other contries can only purchase the export version of T-50, when built together by Russia and India. The T-50 variant for IAF can be almost similar to the Russian one but built in India, he said. He also confirm that Indian side will take as 50% of all program work despite the fact that now 'Russia is well ahead' in this program. The first prototype will be transferred to Zhukovsky. All testing program includes as 2000 flying till 2015. A number of prototypes will take participation in it.

Other Indo-Russian program is successfully follow too: the Indian sources in Moscow confirmed negotiations for more 42 Su-30MKI purchase.

They are visiting the Kaluga Radio Research Engineering Institute. Discussing the manufacture of electronic warfare systems for Su-30 series aircraft. CAD software, micro-assembly, great detail, microwave chambers, bread boards... blah blah.

"Suhkois with Kaluga Institute equipment become almost invincible." lol

India, Russia May Sign Agreement To Build Fighter Aircraft.
During the visit of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to India later this week, Delhi and Moscow are expected to sign the first of a series of agreements for the development of fifth-generation fighter aircraft or FGFA to cater to the future requirements of the Indian Air Force.

Media reports say the project would cost around $10 billion, to be shared equally by the two sides.

Russian integrated aircraft manufacturer United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) said: "We expect to ink the agreement for the development of FGFA design and its technical parameters after March 10."

The twin-stick two-seater version of the futuristic multi-role fighter jet for the IAF will be developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and Sukhoi Corporation, which is a part of the UAC.
The design of the FGFA for the IAF would be based on Sukhoi's T-50 PAK FA technology demonstrator, which after making its maiden flight on January 29, is beginning a series of trials, it is learnt.

The two sides have agreed to share the proceeds from the sale of the fighters to third countries, keeping in view their intellectual property rights, the sources said.

The aircraft would be priced at $85-100 million apiece, and available in the global market, after India and Russia met their initial requirements.

Russia And India To Develop Joint 5G-fighter By 2016

by Staff Writers
Moscow (RIA Novosti) Mar 10, 2010
A Russian-Indian fifth-generation fighter jet could be developed by 2015-2016, a Russian defense industry official said on Tuesday.

Moscow and New Delhi are expected to sign a contract on a joint development of the new fighter in the near future, focusing on the design concept and technical requirements put forward by India.

"I hope that we will be able to build a joint fifth-generation aircraft in the next five to six years. It is a time-consuming and complex project," said Alexander Fomin, first deputy head of the Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation.

The new aircraft will be most likely based on Russia's T-50 prototype fifth-generation fighter, which has already made two test flights and is expected to join the Russian Air Force in 2015.

India's Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) was reported to be seeking a 25% share in design and development in the project.

Fomin said the fighter for the Indian Air Force could incorporate several integrated on-board systems developed by third parties.

"The integration is good because we will not have to invent a bicycle and can use the things that our neighbors already have, but it is also a difficult task because we will have to combine all the elements in a unified system," the official said.

The new fighter for the Indian Air Force is expected to feature a two-seat cockpit, advanced electronics and could be armed with BrahMos supersonic missiles.

Russia has been developing its fifth-generation fighter since the 1990s. The current prototype, known as the T-50, was designed by the Sukhoi design bureau and built at a plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, in Russia's Far East.

Russian officials have already hailed the fighter as "a unique warplane" that combines the capabilities of an air superiority fighter and attack aircraft.

India set to buy 42 more Russian Su-30 fighter jets
New Delhi (RIA Novosti) Mar 10 - India and Russia are negotiating a new contract on the delivery of 42 Su-30MKI to the Indian Air Force, an Indian newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing military sources.

According to the Daily News and Analysis newspaper, the new deal, which is reportedly worth more than $3 billion, has been in the works for several months.

The new air-superiority fighters will come on top of the 230 already contracted from Russia in three deals worth a total of $8.5 billion.

"The [new] order is being placed due to the insufficient number of fighter squadrons in the Indian Air Force and would allow us to eliminate potential threats," a source in the Indian Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti.

India originally ordered 50 Su-30MKI aircraft from Russia in 1996-98 and an additional 40 planes in 2007. Hindustani Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) was also contracted to build 140 aircraft in India between 2003 and 2017 under a licensed production agreement.

The Indian Air Force currently has about 100 Su-30MKIs, mainly deployed at airbases close to the borders with China and Pakistan.

Analysts believe that India will remain the main purchaser of Russian-made combat aircraft for the next 15 years under existing and future contracts, as the country desperately needs to upgrade its fighter fleet, which includes Su-30MKI and MiG-29 fighters, but mainly consists of obsolete Soviet MiG-21 models.

India, Russia agree details of joint 5G-fighter project

India and Russia have agreed in general on shared responsibility for the joint development of the fifth-generation fighter, the chairman of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) said.
Moscow and New Delhi are expected to sign a contract on the joint development of the new fighter in the near future, focusing on the design concept and technical requirements put forward by India.
"Currently, broad areas of work sharing have been identified. Composite materials, avionics, etc. could be some of the focus areas of HAL," Ashok Nayak said in an exclusive interview with RIA Novosti.
Nayak did not specify the cost of the project but said it would be split evenly between India and Russia.
The sides agreed to develop both a single-seat and a two-seat versions of the aircraft by 2016, focusing on the single-seat version in the initial stages of development.
"Both versions will be put in service with the Indian Air Force," Nayak said.
The HAL chairman said the Indian side had already specified technical requirements for the single-seat version and passed them on to Russian manufacturers.
"The general agreement is that we work on both sides - the Russians and the Indians will cooperate on both versions of the aircraft," he said.
The new aircraft will be most likely based on Russia's T-50 prototype fifth-generation fighter, which has already made two test flights and is expected to join the Russian Air Force in 2015.
Russia has been developing its fifth-generation fighter since the 1990s. The current prototype, known as the T-50, was designed by the Sukhoi design bureau and built at a plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, in Russia's Far East.
