Be a little bit more polite please.

In your mouth all that is russian made is a mega project.
Like Koursk sub?
Like nuclear plant?
Like concordsky plane?
Like Proton rocket?

Russia was, in 2014, only the 10th world economy, with 140 millions people...
Russian GDP in 2015 was -3.5% (read slowly : MINUS 3.5%), -0.7% expected this year.

You were a great power. And you are living in the past.
Ahem sorry to ask but how is France doing for their gdp?

And yet the Russians are spending more on defence, and France is cutting its defence expenses.
by the way GDP does not reflect how much a country spends on defence, it can be used as spent on def / GDP.
There are many countries with low GDP spending high on defence and there are other countries with higher GDP but yet spend less on defence.

France GDP is near zero growth.

Russian one is decreasing : -3.7% in 2015. 2016 will not be better.

Russia to start PAK FA production, with new engines, in 2018

Russia plans to begin serial production of the fifth generation fighter T-50 (PAK FA project), with new engines in 2018, a source in the military-industrial complex told RIA Novosti.

"When new engines emerge, which will be about 2018, we will then proceed to full-scale generation production," the source said, answering the question about the production of T-50.

Earlier the United Engine Corporation representatives stated that the first prototypes of the standard "second stage" PAK FA engine would be produced by 2017, and that the testing was scheduled for 2018.

Today, prototypes of the PAK FA are flying with the "first stage" engine "Article 117", which has already been put into production.

The "second stage" engine will have a much higher fuel efficiency and specific thrust than the "product 117" has, and its structural and technological performance and the level of achieved parameters will fully meet the world standards for the fifth generation engine.

As quite always, you are wrong.
A proof? France ordered some more Tigre and NH90 THIS year.... The defense budget is one of the sole protected by our government after terrorist attacks. It will grow in the coming years.

Now, India turns to Russia for mega defence deals

NEW DELHI: After a pronounced tilt towards the US in terms of defence deals and military-to-military ties over the last decade, further reinforced by the recent inking of the bilateral logistics pact, India has reassured Russia that their traditional strategic partnership will continue on its upward trajectory.

Defence ministry sources said negotiations for mega defence projects with Russia like joint development of the futuristic fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) and Kamov Ka-226T light utility helicopters were "well on track" after being stalled for some time.

Similarly, major defence deals with Russia, ranging from the Rs 39,000 crore acquisition of five S-400 Triumf advanced air defence missile systems to the $1.5 billion lease of a second nuclear-powered submarine, are also in the offing.

India already operates a nuclear-powered Akula-II submarine christened INS Chakra, which was acquired on a 10-year lease from Russia in April 2012 under a $900 million deal inked earlier.

All this is reflected in the flurry of top-level bilateral meetings to be held in the coming days. The 16th meeting of the India-Russia Military Technical Cooperation Working Group, for instance, will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Indian delegation will be led by the director-general of defence acquisitions in the meeting, which will include the inking of a joint protocol. Concurrently , the two countries will also hold a top meeting on shipbuilding, aviation and land systems, which will be co-chaired by the defence production secretary from India.

The fine balance India is trying to strike between the two erstwhile Cold War rivals is also evident in the way the Indian Army will hold combat exercises with US and Russian forces this month.

The 'Yudh Abhyas' exercise between US troops from Fort Louis and Madras Regiment soldiers will be held at Chaubatia in Uttarakhand from September 14 to 27. The 'Indra' exercise between Russian soldiers and Kuma on Regiment troops will be held at Vladivostok from September 22 to October 2.

After Indian, US and Japanese warships conducted the top-notch Malabar exercise off Okinawa in June, India and Russia will hold their Indra naval wargames in the Indian Ocean around December.

"Russia was worried whether India wanted to continue complex projects like the FGFA. We have expressed our keenness to ink the final R&D design contract for the Indian 'perspective multi-role fighter' (based on the Russian FGFA called Sukhoi T-50 or PAK-FA) in 2016-2017," said a source.

India, however, has conveyed that it is not interested in the proposed joint development of the multi-role transport aircraft (MTA) due to the twin-engine plane's cost-viability, delivery timelines and failure to meet high-altitude requirements.

But Russia has taken heart from India's positive response on other projects, and has even offered its under-construction nuclear-powered aircraft carrier 'Storm' (Shtorm) and technologies associated with the project.

TOI had earlier reported that the US was currently unwilling to offer help to India in nuclear propulsion for the proposed construction of its largest-ever warship, the 65,000-tonne aircraft carrier INS Vishal. In effect, the US Russia rivalry to woo India in the military arena continues.

India and Russia agree on details of new joint production of fifth generation fighter aircraft

NEW DELHI: After several months of hectic negotiations on technical details, India and Russia are ready with a detailed work-share agreement for joint production of a fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA). Russia will now share critical new generation aircraft technologies as part of a deal that would include production of over 100 fighters in India.

The two nations are also expected to incorporate a new company by October for the production of Kamov Ka 226 light choppers, which would involve significant private sector participation.

Both projects have been accelerated ahead of Indo-Russian summit talks in Goa next month that will be attended by President Vladimir Putin.

Officials who have been briefed on ongoing talks told ET that the FGFA programme in particular will yield rich dividends to India due to the quantum of technology on offer.

"From a preliminary documents that was barely two dozen pages, we have agreed on a 650 page detailed plan that specifies exactly what all will be shared," the official said.

Unlike in the past when a broad agreement would be signed on fighter deals like the Su 30 MKI contract, this time around Indian negotiators have gone deep into details of the joint production plan.

The project got a boost last year from Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar after being on the brink of collapse.

The signing of the work share agreement is expected shortly, with India committing to invest $4 billion over the coming years to develop a tailor-made version of the fighter. One of the major concerns of the Indian side was the development of a new jet engine for the fighter and its weapons package.

India has already spent $300 million in a preliminary design contract for the project with Russia that was completed in June 2013.

In the initial stage, HAL and Russian Helicopters will sign up for the joint company but the Indian side is clear that a private sector partner will be brought in at a later stage to assist the project.

Pune-based Kalyani Strategic Systems is tipped as a frontrunner for this partnership to manufacture helicopter engines for the KA 226.

On the chopper contract, officials said that work is being accelerated to ensure that a new joint company is incorporated by the time the summit level talks begin.

Hope we start talking PAK DA joint development too and start the MTA JV altogether again with renewed requirements as per IAF. MOD and Parrikar should stop IAF to change the requirements midway again.

PAK DA is dedicated doomsday bomber, so it will never be exported or put on JV, even with closest allies like India.
Russians now have a decent need for light transport aircraft for liasion purposes to substitute An-26. So MTA is postponed until 2018 in favour of Il-112V LTS/LTA which will made its maiden flight in the next July.
I think the next JV will be for Il-112 LTA.

Good news..............I guess.:notsure:

Even so, the project timeline is not clear. Maybe they'll anounce it during the formal signing of agreement at BRICS summit in Goa. Clock is ticking, fighter strength is falling. We cannot afford a protracted development or missed deadline with this one. Hopefully the IAF will induct this quickly and keep upgrading it subsequently like they did with the Su-30Mki.
BTW, is it just me or does Parrikar in that infographic look a bit like Stalin.o_O
