Sri Lankans should hate India at their own peril. Just like Nepal, they are not capable enough to defend themselves in such a tough neighbourhood. Ultimately, they are going to come running to India at the slightest harm.

India is to this region, what the USA is to the world. Like it or not, our reach is way beyond our borders and that's how it's going to be. Smaller nations around India are going to have to mold their foreign policy to be in line with India's. That's why they keep cribbing, and they can continue doing so. Entire S.E Asia is Indian dominion.
We supply electricity and gas to some of them (Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh), we build housing colonies for some of them (Myanmar), and we help them out during natural calamities. We're doing our bit.
If there's an LTTE insurgency in SL, it's bloody well our business. If there's a Maoist takeover in Nepal, that's our business too, because it affects our security inside India. If they think it's interference, so be it. We'll push for policies that favor our interests. These smaller nations, in turn, benefit from the trade and tourism we send them. Maldives learnt this the hard way when we suspended flights and trade during their takeover. Continue hating us, we're here to stay. If their country becomes unmanageable, they are welcome to join India as another state, like Sikkim did. No point blaming India for their woes.
