Not every country's population is predisposed to the notion that foreign govt helping them should translate to good will in return. for India, decades of socialism and marxist media has tuned our population to that line of thinking, not necessary that other country's too encourage such an idea.

that was a coup and we were very close by and I dont think we have as much influence than what another country would have taken if it was them.

What is happening in srilanka is not a coup and it would be hard to influence and meme the minds of srilankans after this crisis is abated unless india bluntly asks some gov personal to hand over some strategic land for some military bases or outposts.Something india is not likely to do but we can hope.

There is no need to assume that this goodwill will linger for a long time after the crisis is over.
