. . Litening Aircraft EO system 2007 For Tejas (LCA) combat aircraft
Litening Aircraft EO system (2007) For modernized Jaguar combat aircraft
(750) Derby BVRAAM (2008) For SPYDER SAM systems
4 EL/M-2083 APR Air search radar 2008 2011 (1)
(750) Python-5 BVRAAM 2008 For SPYDER SAM system; possibly incl production of components in India
EL/M-2052 Combat ac radar (2009) For Tejas (LCA) combat aircraft produced in India; bought after Indian development of radar delayed
This is stuff I extracted from SIPRI. Should be proof enough.

From Wiki on SPYDER guys...

Indian Air Force - 18 batteries (108 launchers with 750 Python-5 and 750 Derby missiles).
That adds up to 1500...doesn't it.

It would be proof enough if that is what it said... I did a search for Indian reciepts from 2008-2011 and got this...

India 18 SPYDER-MR Mobile SAM system 2008 $260 m 'LLQRM' programme; delivery from 2012

Trade Registers
That confirms exactly what Aviationweek reported.

That's the SPYDER-MR system. Not the SPYDER-SR system.

The Derby and Python V orders are for the SR.

You can see the difference by counting the number of launch tubes. SR has 4 launch tubes while MR has 8.
You have already seen pictures of the TATA based trucks with 4 tube launchers in this thread.

http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/defence-strategic-issues/24813-tata-platform-spyder-sr.html

The MR SAM will come up later. We may have taken deliveries of it.

SIPRI does not mention the SR SAM delivery for some reason. Perhaps because it was transferred in component form for assembly on TATA trucks in India.

Perhaps two different systems as a whole. One developed as a JV, the other as direct deliveries from Israel.

Check a little bit above the SPYDER-MR. It says 750 Python V and 750 Derby.

Re: 18 systems for US $1 Billion

Thats like USD $52 million for one system.

Whoa.....$52 mil for 4 SAM missiles.

That sounds awfully expensive and at that price they better work against anything !!
a unit refers to one battery not one firing unit

Yeah, your right. not because of SIPRI. I found it on TSAMTO as there was a 2009 follow on order for 54 launchers to equip 3 regiments at $820 million.

From the Chief of Air Staff

IS: IS: Could you give an update on the IAF's endeavours to improve
its ground-based air defence capabilities? How well are the
comparatively recently inducted Akash and Spyder SAM systems
performing? Also, what is the progress on the India-Israel joint
MR-SAM programme? Please elucidate.

CAS:

A number of ground based defence capability projects are in
progress. These include Akash, Spyder, MRSAM, SRSAM and
VSHORAD. A number of Akash squadrons have already been
operationalised in the IAF and several more squadrons will be
inducted soon. A few Squadrons of SPYDER LLQRM have also
been contracted. Delivery of the SPYDER system is likely to
commence shortly. Design, development and production of
MRSAM jointly by DRDO and OEM from abroad is progressing well.
A case for joint procurement of VSHORAD, for all three services is
being processed. .
..:: India Strategic ::. IAF: Exclusive Interview: Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha

So More in Pipeline ..my guess is correct

Which version of Spyder was inducted ?

Spyder SR - 15 km interception range.

Spyder MR - 35 Km interception range.

If it's MR then it's better than Russian TOR and BUk.

Actually the airforce already have the system deployed along Easter borders or currently being deployed

Its now the Army who's asks for a more mobile QR SAM rather than Akash, thus they chosen SpyDer for them selves
