Kunal, are you sure we have IAI Elta ELW2085 ? It could be there for some other purposes ?

If we have those, how does it comparable to our Phalcons ?

There is less doubt regarding the possession of Elta ELW2085, These machines have sophisticated intelligence-gathering systems. aircraft has been modified to include an advanced airborne early warning phased array radar which covers 360 degrees around the plane while in flight. In addition, its command and control systems are heavily automated. The aircraft is based on the GulfStream G550 executive jet, which according the IAI, is extremely fuel efficient for long-range missions. Where as Phalcons have more less same capability but it works in different way and priorities are different..

India is known to have IMI Spy Aircraft before, And the pics of Modified 2085s in Mumbai Airport conform this..

The IAF currently operates two EL/M-2083 Aerostat radars acquired under a $145 million deal with Israel in 2004-2005.

The Indian Navy is set to acquire five EL/M-2083 radars from Israel to fill vital gaps in the coastal security and the IAF four more.

The tethered EL/M-2083 phased array radar is mounted on a blimp that can hover up to 13,000 feet. Developed and manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries' Elta Systems Group (IAI/Elta), the radar is a simpler version of the Green Pine radar, made by IAI and used by the Arrow missile defense system.

Data gathered by the radar is transmitted to a central air defense command & control center where it is used to maintain an extended comprehensive air situation picture.

Each system is reportedly capable of providing 3-D coverage in a radius of 500 km, which is roughly equivalent to the coverage that would be provided by 30 ground based radars.

According to IAI, the system is designed to detect hostile approaching aircraft from long ranges, especially those flying at low altitudes.

^^^Out of two, one is damaged and not operational. We planned to buy 6 of those but DRDO is developing aerostats now so that plan might have suffered a setback.

P.S. May i know why you posted about aerostats ?

2085 in G550 is more advanced than our phalcons, so RAW is having a very advanced AWACs than our IAF.

Pictures are not that clear kunal, could be anything.

OT, If we have really ordered an extra two phalcons in IL-76 platform then i should say its a terrible decision, they should have gone for G550 platform.

G550 in form of 2085 have early warning phase array radar, And Phalcons have AESA, Both are very sophisticated systems but works differently, So does the missions..

IL-76 platform are familiar with IAF and Logistical supports are av-liable, Where as buying two or three G550 will have logistical problems as the number are so small, though these are small Jets easy to maintain and suits perfectly to RAW when compare to IAF..

Abt Pictures, The can be anything but 2085s, Nothing like that else present in known world ..

Comparing Phalcon AWACS of IAF and Gulfstreams of RAW/ARC doesn't make any sense. As Kunal said, both have different designs, capabilities, mission profiles and applications. Phalcons can act as air born traffic controller, ECMs, missile guides, radar and more for a long period of time. Same can't be expected from GulfStreams
