Fort Bragg -> A training incident, that killed a paratropper from 82nd Airborne Division and wounded secen others involved a howitzer in a live fire exercise according to Army.

Two of the wounded were seriously injured while the rest had minor injuries said Capitan Douglas Ray.

It is atleast SECOND live fire incident in which troops were injured during training at Fort Bragg in three years.

Ray said the incident occurred during an exercise of the 18th Fires Brigade, an Airborne Field Artillery unit that involved M777 light towed howitzer.

In March 2011, a similar weapon an M777 A2 lightweight howitzerwas involved in an incident when its barrel apparently exploded leaving eight marines and Two Navy Personal injured.

Fort Bragg officials said Pfc. James Groth, 22, of Ethel, Wa., a cannon crew member, was killed during the training exercise. Groth was pronounced dead upon arrival at Womack Army Medical Center, according to the Army.

"The incident occurred during a training exercise while Soldiers from 18th Fires Brigade's 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment conducted an artillery live-fire training exercise with a M777, 155mm towed howitzer," officials said in a statement Saturday.
