ARDE is working on 6.x so you might see it in future and cost as pointed out by @ManhattanProject is a big factor too for now we will have to import those.
They made MCIWS already in 6.8x43mm and i've mentioned it in past many times that certain key manufacturing specifications about militray spec ammo in it are still owned by Remington and they aren't much willing to give away without some 'profit',
^this was one major reason that program to upgrade 5.56mm AR pattern rifles to 6.8x43mm did not see much success in the US
Good luck to ARDE if they are still tinkering around with rifle chambered in same one.

@Johny_Baba @SGOperative @ManhattanProject and others-
Why don't you guys write a piece on the dream(basically, wet dream) portfolio of Indian small arms- forces wise? Whenever you guys have some leisure
Cause almost all of our procurement are ad-hoc and without a proper insight of the future.
Most of the time we buy or make something to match an adversary, we never do something that will give us an upper hand in near future.
People here can write everything from HK433 to Case Telescoped Ammunition; but there is no sense as ultimately we'll buy a f-ing AK.

This is the only good thing one can do with wet dreams.

MCIWS has already been rejected, ARDE might do something. Anyway MCIWS was rejected for being jack of all and master of none. So Army is not going to go with a Multiple caliber weapon even in future.
