Even more costlier, for example each FAB Defense upgrade kit costs as much as a rifle would, hence doubling the price.
Kits are only useful for moding existing Stuff
Buying new rifles with no accesories or provision to mount those accesories, then buying a Kit for those provisions is just plain Dumb
AK-203 in it's original form is an excellent weapon IMO
ak103m is just a shiny looking Akm with polymer furniture

The logics
- A "compensation" to the Russians for Rafale, Scorpene, SIG 716, MICA, ASRAAM, NASAMS, Negev and so on.

- To use "दुनिया की सबसे दमदार एसॉल्ट राइफल" as a leverage in election in Amethi.
We bought NASAMS?

Still could have been something else, an ak-15 minus 2 round burst. Adjustable stock is basic necessity these days imho.

Saving money is the only necessity in MOD's honest opinion.
What's your thoughts on if had not gone for sig and instead taken deep modernisation of insas(like l85 modernisation program) we could have saved a lot of money, maybe even bought enough optics with that money.

- INSAS (family) has matured enough to outperform any stock Klashnikov; including AK-12. We've ARDE carbine.

- If 7.62x39mm was our only priority then we already have Trichy Assault Rifle. Just add few more bits to improve ergonomics and you're good to go.

- If we have no issues with Quasi-DI guns (coz we've already inducted SIG 716) then there are n number of medium sized US companies which make way better AR-15s than any AK-12 and that too at a very low cost.

Kyle Rittenhouse narrating events happened at Kenosha that day, here mentioning how he used Forward Assist of his AR to (push the bolt carrier forward and) close ejection port etc which later was fired on certain antifa supporters...

Case in point, forward assist feature potentially saved his life,
while Stoner himself and USAF etc were not so supportive towards putting this feature on M16, it seems that having it is still better than being sitting duck when situation arises...

I personally believe choosing non-reciprocating charging handle for INSAS was kind of a mistake, sure it helped with 'training' as previous 1A SLR had same charging handle albeit at slightly different location and gave them a chance to seal up that rifle by eliminating charging handle slot that would have been there in case they followed simple AK design, but they also removed direct forward assist that an AK style charging handle would have provided, or some other non-reciprocating design like AUG A1 had that button on charging handle to grab extension rod (here it would be gas piston itself) while pulling it back//pushing it forward to make it act as forward assist...at least some jams that INSAS suffered could have been solved this way and god knows if some lives could also have been saved or what not...

also, looking at rifles tested by the Army back then,
>AUG - had indirect forward assist feature with that button on non-reciprocating charging handle
View attachment 121650
>H&K 33 - no forward assist but bolt carrier had these serration like cuts near bolt face so 'in theory' an operator could push it manually forwad using his thumb
View attachment 121651
View attachment 121659
>H&K G41 - had AR style forward assist button on receiver with bolt carrier having cuts for it
View attachment 121652
View attachment 121657
>Stg-940 - was practically an AK what else to say, just slam on its charging handle
View attachment 121654
>Galil (?, saying ecause Rifle Room of Ishapore had it there so i guess it was tested out at one point ?) - same as above
View attachment 121655
>SIG-550 (again, RFI rifle room had it there so...) - same as above
View attachment 121656
and so,
almost all of them had one way or other to manually force bolt carrier forward in case it is not in battery, but somehow INSAS was not given it, "just charge the rifle two-three times" doesn't always work...

RIP Trichy Assault Rifle.
It will be relegated to backend troops like CRPF, CISF, Cobra commandos, etc.
IA almost always rejects desi maal and cites bogus reasons for doing so. We needed a Manohar Parrikar type fellow to push TAR down IA's throat just like LCA Tejas.

Regd forward assist design on the AR, an important thing he missed to explain is,
on AR if bolt is not fully in battery it becomes difficult to separate upper receiver and lower receiver apart for some quick field strip and so, since end of the bolt carrier would slightly be inside buffer tube of buttstock that is part of the lower receiver...the only way to open an AR then would be to open castle nut of the buffer tube, pull out buffer tube with the bolt carrier and then open the rifle itself...and to open castle nut you would require that specific wrench made for it that mostly wouldn't be carried by a soldier on duty,

so in those severe cases he mentioned where it would make sense to cycle the bolt instead of forcing bolt forward, i agree but again even after doing so if the rifle is not going fully in battery a user could/would find it helpful to have forward assist to at least try to force it in to battery, otherwise he would face difficulties in opening his gun apart for mainteance...so as he said "better to have it and (hope to) not need it then..."

this is one major flaw of the AR design that i vehemently dislike and did lots of mental grinding about what could be best way to solve it with minimal compromise on featuers part...
i mean best way of course is to throw that non-reciprocating t-bar handle to dustbin and adopt to reciprocating side charging handles...but then ;ambidextrosity; regd charging part gets removed plus cutting a notch on receiver would f**k up sealing of the gun which in turn would f**k up reliability of AR, also many operators find side mounted reciprocating charging handle to be a nuisance for tactical reasons like snuggling on their gear etc...

so yeah, its not only charging handle and forward assist thing but other aspects of the rifle design too that get effected with such changes on a military combat rifle, and taking all things in mind having this feature for ;emergency only - for SHTF moments; is better than not having it...

This generally doesn't apply to other designs i mentioned in previous posts (AUG, HK33 etc) as in those designs operating of the weapon won't interfere much with opening of the weapon itself, but due to that buffer (recoil spring) arrangement on the AR it is kinda a case here...even on INSAS you can open it just like regular AK way
