I doubt SSS has an in house R&D team for making a new gun design.
Firearm experts are close to non existent here. Maybe they will make an office in Murica and do all the R&D there.

The Indian market simply can't sustain a firearm company, maybe if GOI actively works with private companies to expand their influence in the neighbouring regions than it may work.
GOI should curb all export restriction for weapons export.
We have Neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Bangladesh where guns, ammuniton and accessories can be sold.
CBC and SSS are set to produce ammuniton in their Nashik based factory maybe they can export these ammuniton to Murica in the future.
Why can't we hire specialist from US or Canada,
When mnc can use indian talent, why can't we use their's

Sleeping babus
I am not evening talking about OFB.
I am talking about private firms like SSS,
Even are not even a strategic sector.
Further OFB depts. should be privatised ASAP else they will lose their only customer - Indian Forces.

This reminds me,
@shuvo@y2k10 you told about OFB taking initiative of making an R-2 equivalent version from that SG553 chhap 5.56mm Carbine, i.e. R-2 with section-ed receiver or something,

could you provide a source of this please, as this seems like a step in right direction, if it succeeds then we may see a whole family of such rifles in different calibers i hope.
No concrete source. Just a chaiwala chatter from BRF about a proposal from ARDE after the Sig 553 style carbine came out, that it could also be made in 7.62*51 mm. But army rejected it in the proposal stage itself.

It looks slick for sure....
(((Is that the ITL mini reflex sight on the top😂?)))
Also does it take in M4 type Stanag mags or Insas mags in 5.56 configuration
Seems like INSAS mag, not STANAG, the upper receiver is an AK, the lower receiver is an AR.
Yup it’s an INSAS Mag extended for 30 rounds, worst thing to remind you is that INSAS was a trash, their magazines were trash and plus our soldiers used 20rd magazines, like seriously, the 30rd mags were issued to INSAS LMG.

Iseally it’s neither an INSAS mag or STANAG mag @Hariharan_kalarikkal as it is chambered in 6.8x43mm Remington SPC.
Tell me is your source for It's an INSAS mag extended 30 round yada yada is this video ?

Then both of you are wrong, It's not INSAS magazine because INSAS one is a Kalashnikov-pattern Nose-In-Rock-Back pattern magazine, how could you even fix an AK pattern magazine as it is inside an AR pattern mag well without seriously modifying that mag ?

while this one here is indeed a STANAG compatible magazine and push-button style magazine locking, couldn't you see the magazine locking tab ?

MCIWS-AAR_Magazine_Release_Details.jpg

With MCIWS//AAR, DRDO's plan was very much similar to what some AR variants did i.e. using STANAG pattern magazines for all offered calibers, as this magazine well + magazine release combo on its receiver could already be used with STANAG compatible-derived magazines for 6.8x43mm and 7.62x39mm magazines apart from 5.56x45mm ones of course

In video i mentioned above and this pic of same thing, is showing 7.62x39mm version of MCIWS with curved STANAG-compatible magazine on it

I mean you must've seen CZ Bren 2 right ?

>STANAG pattern magazines in both 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm, using same mag-well and mag release

Same exact idea, and MCIWS came out much before than current Cz Bren 2

So yeah, it's not INSAS magazine directly put on MCIWS at all, neither it is INSAS upper and AR lower thing but a Gas Piston System AR and AK trigger group in AR-inspired receiver, please do read old posts before making such trivial mistakes.

These mags of Bren are compatible with Aks and vice versa as i had seen Ak mags in Bren-2 iirc

Everyone says Ak203 was a bad decision and we should have gone for Galil Ace and yada yada. Ace/Ace-2 costs 1800 USD. Even if mass produce or order thrm that pricr aint going to come down below 1000 no matter what unless its heavily watered down. Though it is comparatively accurate than a Ak103/Arsenal M5F41 the advantages posed by is is bleak which dont justify the price tag..And outcome of a battle doesnt depend upon such bleak points unless the weapon is an utter crap. But in this case Ak variants are still doing the job.
Anyway in case of SF getting a Galil Ace-2 or Bren-2 to replace those Vzs and Modified Aks sre the way forward .

It is an ITL Raptor which is license made here, it is an old optic, the pic of MCIWS is old as well, some 7 years old, Raptor is in service in sizeable numbers for more than a decade, in today’s date it is more of an Airsoft optic.

Seems like INSAS mag, not STANAG, the upper receiver is an AK, the lower receiver is an AR.
Dude, lots of errors here. It is not AR-15 LR with AK upper. That is not possible.

It is an AK based trigger group with AR-15 like magazine feeding system, from what I can see. May be a short stroke piston, maybe not. And the magazine is not an INSAS mag. It is more like a polymer stanag type mag. INSAS mag will not interface with that feeding system.

Iseally it’s neither an INSAS mag or STANAG mag @Hariharan_kalarikkal as it is chambered in 6.8x43mm Remington SPC.
It is not STANAG or INSAS, correct, but can definitely chamber 5.56 rounds. Seems like it was built for 5.56 in the first place. 5.56 NATO, not INSAS, mind you.

A comparison to this mag would be the MAGPUL P-Mag (design wise only)..
