Ig it failed army trials and AK203 is more of a political decision imo than IA decision
Indian Army does not want AKs, if Galil Ace Gen-II is selected even for 7.62x39, I’ll be more than happy. Or even AK-15 would be great but AK-203 and that too watered down is a big joke and embarrassment.

SSSD Is working on an AR-15 Type rifle, and when will they release it? Once Indian Army has all small arms requirements met?

Most likely in Defence expo 2022 (if completed).

AR-15 type rifle is the most easiest of any rifle to develop, owing to the fact that its design is public, and in the American civilian fire-arms market all of its parts are individually available.

They are focussed more on US civilian Market than India.

Logical move by SSSD. Because Indian defence market is unpredictable, takes lot of testing, no guarantee any gun will be inducted even after years of testings etc.

Whereas US Civilian market is a low hanging fruit for many arms manufacturer around the globe. However, that market is highly saturated.

Around 4 lakh Carbines, 5.56 NATO round.

6.5-7 Lakh Assault rifle , 7.62 AK round ( AK 203 in negotiation )

1.4 Lakh Battle rifle Sig 716 7.62 NATO round ( possibly another 70,000+ batch of Sig 716 )

Total 12.5 Lakh around.
According to Colonel Aman Anand, Army spokesperson, all infantry battalions deployed at key locations have got this weapon while in other infantry, 50 per cent of troops have it. Approximately 1 lakh 44 Sig Sauer rifles have been given to Indian troops, government sources said.

Opting Tar or license produce any of the advanced Kalashnikov versions of Arsenal inc was the most feasible option for IA instead of the watered down Ak203 deal.Btw there is chancew that jn future models of Ak203 we may get adavanced features like M-lock, collapsible stock rail over handguard etx.The cost of setting up of factory will be huge and returns from it will be nil as there will be very few markets for ofb products. Iirc the $1100 includes factory installation cost too. Thats quite natural. But then again we could have made it in Trichy where Tar is made to reduce the cost.
As it is a political decision to satisfy both russians and people in Amethy there is no point crying🤭.
Ps:FYI the cost of a substandard Ghatak rifle made by OFB is 46000.

The system that made OFB this much incompetetent is IA over reliance on their products. only in case of HAL if they fuck up anything IAF is gonna just go and buy foreign maal and HAL will get loses.but in OFBs case army cant go to foreign maal for ammo so OFB has no fear of losing its customer so it does these fuck ups. but now IA has been importing Sigs716 for equiping front line units for carbine rfi too OFB even if it participates has to show their products quality
