It is going to be SIG one, with either SIG or General Dynamics version of ammunition.

some of the Squad Automatic Weapons (M249//M27) would be replaced with General Dynamics one.

Textron has very less chance.
My money is on SIG. Its ammo is more conventional i.e. brass-steel hybrid. We all know why XM8 wasn't selected. Uncle SAM doesn't trust polymer cartridges / weapons much.

on a sidenote,
meet 6.8mm Sherwood, another 6.xmm round trying to get into NGSW program,
1617688144079.png

made by amreeki VK systems,

it's said that bullet length is of 45mm and case is based on .284 winchester,
also said that you'd only need barrel change with standard 7.62 NATO rifles as 6.8 Sherwood is compatible with 7.62mm bolts and bolt carriers, no special modifications are required.
(and of course some minor gas settings in gas system)

The only potential downside with Sherwood is the case is slightly tapered that means when stacked together in staggered column (i.e. like when in magazine) it 'tends' to curve slightly like an AK round so perhaps current gen 7.62 NATO mags *might* not work so well with this, being of straight type and so.

Simple, observe the cylindrical shape and 'steep' of the cylindrical section from bottom (primer side) to top (bullet side) on this AK round vs same on AR one,
1617689234091.png

can you see it that 5.56x45mm is oveall 'straighter' than 7.62x39mm ? so when stacked together side-by-side AR one would mostly remain a straight pile upto some 20-22 rounds-just like a pile of books,
while AK one would start 'curving'-just like a pile of empty folders

say,this
1617689910708.png

vs
1617689867028.png

or in our case,this
1617689384387.png

vs
1617689435826.png

We can also observe same in magazines of both rounds,

^same thing with Sherwood, it has more 'taper' = more 'steeper' angle of edge than 7.62 NATO so it will 'tend' to curve when stacke together in magazine etc.

This was the main reason US found the 300blk right?

Oh i haven't followed .300 Blackout's developmental approach much but basic skimming through wikipedia article suggest so, mainly their eqivalent to 7.62x39mm//7.92x33mm that can effectively be feeded and fired from AR platform with minimum modification, so yeah.

Why has suddenly the border become so tense?

So mates, not that I care, but do you think about pakis signing deals for AK-103??
Russians never sell anything state of the art to Pakistan, Russia denied AK-103 to Porks, plus they themselves already have PK-18 and PK-21 which is an AK-47 and an AR-10 just like India.

They might already be making it or its kopies in their preferred configuration.

Besides it's just another AK derivative.

Looks like it was a firing conducted after mud test of the AK-103, the way he was shaking the rifle shows it.

That too with an excellent stance and a mag grip, just like how the Russians do it
