These firing is going on since Sep2016. pathetic from modi govt,Indian army top brass, defence ministry. These incompetent **** failed to buy decent sniper rifle in last 2 years.
We r still using Soviet era shitty sniper rifle with maximum 600m-800metre effective range. While Pakis r Using NATO standard Sniper rifle with maximum 2000 metre effective range.
The current phase of LoC fighting started in Jan 2013.

Can anyone identify this weapon ? Is this really sniper rifle or normal rife with scope?
Its SVD Dragunov rifle. Indian army snipers too are armed with this shitty rifle. It does not qualify to be called a sniper but rifle but is basically a marksman rifle. This rifle coupled with inferior sniper training is the reason we are losing our jawans to paki sniper attacks.

This rifle is basically an semi automatic AK47 with an extended barrel, the only measure to improve the otherwise poor accuracy, even the optics are crappy. The army leadership is least concerned about the safety and well being of the jawans. They talk big but have totally failed to devise effective tactics to counter paki sniper attacks. Pakis have a smaller and weaker army and thus they are employing the tactics that the Finns used against the soviets in Russo-finnish war and inflicted huge casualties on the soviet army which greatly demoralised the soviet troops. It seems that this simple concept is too much for the Indian army leadership to comprehend.

Let me understand what you are saying...

How does having IA sniper counter paki sniper?

Paki sniper can still continue to carry out his mission, irrespective of existence of IA sniper.

Sniper hunting sniper in a jungle environment is quite difficult, especially when we are talking about hundreds of KM of LOC with lots of cover.

Oh comeon now, a sniper does not shoot from hundred kms but has to stay within the range of this rifle from the enemy position. A sniper can effectively counter the enemy sniper because he can better understand the enemy sniper tactics and can know about his firing position. Even if he fails to neutralise the enemy sniper he can still neuatralise their regular troops.

While we should definitely have long range
Sniper Guns , but the only way to make the
Enemy Sit Quietly is Fire Assault

LOC is a huge place , with plenty of space to hide

If we retaliate Sniper killing with only Sniper killings on our part , the enemy
Will never feel the pain

Also we have to patrol the LOC to stop the infiltrators

Pakis don't like their soldiers being killed in " large numbers "

They have a threshold of pain , and we have to hurt them again and again

Only then they will behave

But they r busy in wasting billions on weapons which most likely will never see a battlefield.
Army/political leadership hav no innovative plan or strategy to manage LoC attacks . Unfortunately soldiers will continue to pay with their lives for protecting LoC.

Now would be a good time for IA to start working on GSQR for anti-mortar systems. If not the forward posts, key installations could be under the system.
