Jammu, Nov 10: An Indian Army soldier was martyred on Saturday after Pakistani troops violated ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation in Sunderbani at around 9.45 a.m.,” Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand said.

According to the reports, soldier succumbed to injuries from sniper fire.

I don't know when we will employ disproportionate and devastating response to these border strikes. Being the bigger army we can afford to do so. Proportionate responses, such as killing one of their soldiers of one of ours will get us nowhere. Losing 20 soldiers a month is nothing for paki generals.

The antique British made Abbot SP Arty guns (The Indian Army is the only army in the world still using these guns which are placed in the British museum since 1996!) are being replaced by the K9 Vajra. These guns will either be junked or sold almost at scrap value to some third world countries like Burkina Faso.

We need to instead get them on the LoC/IB in hull down positions to hammer the Pakis in direct/indirect firing roles.

What about existing Indian field guns such as the 155mm? And only 100 K9 have been ordered, that too with delivery being completed only by 2021. Pakis already have around 200 modern SPG's.

Nope! There's no dedicated sniper school. However, potential snipers get trained at the infantry school Mhow under the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU). This is the same unit that produces Olympians too!

With due respect, Sir there’s a big difference between marksman and a sniper. Marksman are embedded into infantry units while snipers tend to operate independently. Also the shooting ranges differ for both. We need to up our sniping game or pound them via artillery. This one kill for one kill works psychologically for pakis who hide their casualties mostly while we don’t have that luxury.

If Modi or Bjp govt wants to really prove their 56"chest, He should order Indian army to capture areas opposite of Poonch and Rajouri districts and Hajipir pass. Then there will be a pressure on India to withdraw from captured areas like Kargil (in this case Pakis) , Then only We can see how modi is handling world pressure with his 56"inch talks. If Modi govt is not ready for this, they should shut up.

Pak has no modern SP Arty. They're as old as the hills!

M110A2 variant. The basic version M110 was first introduced in the US Army way back in 1963 and phased out by the US Army Reserve (to which they were transferred), in 1996. This variant from the M110 is nothing but one having a recoil compensator. Due to lack of spares, many are collecting dust or are being cannibalized.

M109 A2 is an American 155mm turreted SP How which was first introduced in the early 1960s. However, these are slightly more contemporary due to a number of modifications carried out by the US. 67 were delivered by the US in 2008 and 48 more were supplied in February 2010 to Pak.

So that's the Pak SP arty armoury. Nothing much to write home about, what?

We have mini depots located on lines of communications which include arms/ammo especially in the Eastern Sector. But hey, you'll not be able to find them on Google maps however hard you try!

The problem is we are not creating bigger problems for the pakis. The present day condition of pakistan is precarious. Their PM is out with a begging bowl in his hands, the state of their internal security is poor and their standing and image in the world community is all time low. This is the best time for us to strike. We should create a sense of insecurity in pakistan by escalating heavily on the LOC and constantly giving signs of an imminent war by mobilising the army, sending our carrier battle groups and nuclear submarines to the Arabian sea close the the paki EEZ and taking up aggressive air patrols on borders. Pakis would then be forced to spend the money they received in the form of loans from the arabs and chinese on war preparation. And when all their money is used up we should deescalate. This wil break the backbone of the paki economy for good, so much so that it will never recover.

Apart from that we must extend our full support to the baloch freedom movement. We must refurbish and upgrade our old platforms like mig 21s 23s and 27s, t55 tanks etc and arm baloch freedom fighters with them and also provide them a base in Afghanistan with the collaboration of the afgan govt for them to operate. They will make the best use of them I am sure as they are highly motivated and wreck the paki state machinery in balochistan for good.
