The talking points for withdrawal of troops should be:

(1) AGPL should be signed, marked and recognize by Pakistan like the LoC
(2) Chinese presence from PoK in troops and engineers should be removed completely

Unless both of these are adhered too, Indian troop withdrawal from Siachen is not possible.

There is no point of withdrawal of troops from there even these are signed..

This is a Military strategic location, Its at height its a barrier between China and Pakistan..

If both side wish for a offence they cannot ruled out this position, Without taking out this position both armies cannot launch a offence..

Reduction of troops is possible..

If we vacate and the Pak Army takes it over stealthily, then there is no hope in hell to re-capture the same.

It takes 21 days to acclimatise to reach those heights and be operationally fit to fight a battle.

None can just jump in (even by air drop) and be operationally fit to fight a battle. Rarefied atmosphere and High Altitude effect!
In India Pakistan context, it would be militarily foolish to vacate any thing that is in your possession ! That is the simple logic particularly when Chinese have started lurking around.

The map signed or not signed, India should not withdraw.

One just cannot trust the Pakistanis.

MMS (God Bless him!) may trust them, but Indians don't.

Bhadra,

We seem to have posted simultaneously.

My contention in that post that once we withdraw, consider it as lost forever!

It is the MMS' need to leave a "legacy" that is to be feared most, not even the Pakistanis !

Long time ago Pakistan bought Specialized Cobra helicopters there they tried to test them in those altitude but failed, later they lauched a SSG attack to capture some of location there, it failed too, Pakistan still desperately wish some how India and Indian Army remove troops from there, Now they have open arms of PLA, And for Us Indians, These times are more sensitive than before..

We need better sub systems and Defensive suits there..

1. Better food
2. Better clothes
3. Better Arms
4. Better AD
5. Better Air-cover
6. Better Mobility

Army is serious here, And always was..

Pakistanis are trying all they can to get India to remove our troops from there.

The most laughable is that their politicians are calling for a withdrawal in the interest of the armed forces on both sides and it should be behind pre 1984 lines. I mean what they think we are? Fools?

Even if Pakis sign maps showing AGPL, we should not vacate Siachen. Like I said the other day, we should do the opposite. Send in more troops, more equipment, create more bunkers and stores etc around Siachen. Make it even more expensive for them. And yes if possible to create avalanches on their side, please do it. The Chinis are of my concern these days than Pakis. We need to take more control of that region.

Agreed, reduction troops is the suitable outcome. We have BSF and military at other borders across India so this is no different.

In any case, I doubt the Pakistanis would agree to the current AGPL or agree to withdraw Chinese presence for PoK.

India Welcomes Pak's Call On Siachen

Shouldnt India b cautious here ?

India Welcomes Pak's Call On Siachen Friday, April 20, 2012 By : Defence News Admin

Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju on Thursday welcomed Pakistan's General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani's call for both nations to demilitarise the world's highest battlefield at the Siachen glacier on their international border. Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju on Thursday welcomed Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani's call for both nations to demilitarise the world's highest battlefield at the Siachen glacier on their international border.

Demilitarisation of Siachen will save millions of valuable dollars and the money can be spent on development of the two countries. "I am glad that our neighbouring country Pakistan is also realising the challenges and the economic problems of maintaining troops on the Siachen Glacier," Minister of State for Defence M. M. Pallam Raju told reporters.

The deployment of troops in glacial heights takes a massive economic toll on Pakistan's economy and both the countries have their individual concerns.

New Delhi has termed the remarks as a "positive development" since they are made by none other than the Pakistan Army Chief, reflecting the readiness of the military to resolve the issues between the two countries.

All issues should be resolved and peaceful co-existence is very necessary for both countries. There is no doubt about that and it looks like the Siachen issue will be the first to be resolved amongst both the countries

Yeah we should welcome their intention. They withdraw and we occupy. Any other thought in the governments mind will be protested

There is nothing wrong in welcoming the Pakistani statement.

But it in no way means that we will implement their desires!

Craziness. If we still fall for this, our nation should collectively give itself a good hard kick in the backside. :puke:

We still believe these people? Its just 13 years since Kargil, just 10 years since the parliament attack, just 8 years since the cessation of "Jihad" sponsored by Pakistan in Kashmir, just 3.5 years since 26/11.

I say, strengthen our defences in Siachen, adopt a more aggressive posture. This man Kiyani is feeling the financial pressure. Bleed their economy dry. No quarter should be given to these people.

Absolutely right, we should rather push them more and get more leverage for gilgit-baltistan.

With no American aid coming in, they sure are feeling the pinch.

Like I have said in other threads and also in tweets, we have to make it more costly for Pakistan in terms of men, material and money.

As the local coolie walas say "ek dhakka aur do". One more push as they will succumb.

PAK U turn ? If India pulls out Siachen troops, so will we: Zardari

If India pulls out Siachen troops, so will we: Zardari
President Asif Ali Zardari [ Images ] has ruled out any unilateral withdrawal of Pakistani soldiers from Siachen, saying troops could be called back from the Himalayan glacier only if India [ Images ] agrees to do the same.

"The withdrawal of Pakistani troops is possible provided India also agrees. It will not be a unilateral decision," he said while addressing a convention of workers of his Pakistan People's Party in Okara district, 100 km from Lahore [ Images ], on Friday.

Speaking almost a fortnight after an avalanche slammed into a high-altitude Pakistan Army [ Images ] camp in Siachen sector and buried 138 people, Zardari said he was worried by the problems of Pakistani soldiers and India too would be concerned for its troops on Siachen.

"There is no doubt that Siachen is the most difficult battlefield in the world... We are aware of the extreme climate and other difficulties at one of the world's most difficult terrains but the withdrawal can only take place if the two governments decide to pull out from the area jointly," he said.

"Pakistan wants to solve its issues with India through talks," Zardari said.

Islamabad [ Images ] is willing to hold a dialogue with New Delhi [ Images ] on all subjects, he added.

The President, who is the supreme commander of Pakistan's armed forces, offered prayers for the soldiers buried by the avalanche that hit the battalion headquarters at Gyari on April 7.

Referring to the normalisation of relations with India, Zardari said the federal government would consider proposals for opening a crossing along the border at Head Sulemanki and constructing a road between Multan in Pakistan's Punjab [ Images ] province and New Delhi to boost trade and economic activities.

He said when he met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [ Images ] during a daylong private visit to India on April 8, the first point which was discussed was bilateral trade.

"I believe trade will bring prosperity for the people of the two countries," he said
