what is your suggestion since you started the thread and I am sure you have a reason to start it.

Something must have been at the back of your mind.

Personally, I don't think we can be as good as the Chinese and so replicating may not give rich dividends compared to the Chinese goods.

what India needs is industries that manufacture tools that can be used in wide applications both in defense and civilian sector. like you mentioned even though japan china even Russia and america copied German tech during world war 2 what they did is invested in heavy industries know they all are miles ahead

for example previously we imported special steel to build our warships but now we manufacture in house , yes India can manufacture from a small pin to space rockets the BIG Problem IS PARTS NEEDED for example we dont have proper manufacturing Tools or machine shops that can make critical parts to be used to build a gas turbine engines , or heavy engines to manufacture capabilities to build a tank engine or certain critical parts manufacturing tools or machines which are used to make them has to be imported there is no industry in India that build them in house.

the reason the above countries were success because they invested in heavy industries and they can successfully manufacture critical parts in house which itself in general makes any country sanction proof. what india needs is heavy industries that can make or produce critical tool making machines rather than buying parts from different countries and assembling them

if we dont have the above even if america gives us entire blue prints of a raptor we will struggle like hell if we don't know how to manufacture critical parts on our own ( just an example )

and china knows this one example is they bought the entire tooling and manufacturing like hard parts and machines fabrication tools from Russia and set it up in their country now they have a replica of every dam fighter hehe copy cats of course but they can make it they can replicate it because they have necessary tools to do it

methodology is more important than tools
