Ok so my point is these days our diplomacy cant help us making chinese to take pro India stance for our benefits because lets face it, its the economy which can far outweigh any kind of superior diplomatic manoeuvres. For a better economy we need a safe environment far from daily pakistani randirona. When we will be allied to western nations we may lose some edge over short term in our diplomacy and non alignment rhetoric but will gain trustworthy allies (provided we comply to their terms too which may be plausible without us being seen as desperate) meanwhile we improve our manufacturing and technological base from the ties with those countries. Strong defence pact signed will make China deterred always. Plus sooner or later muslim nations will go bonkers and will leave western sphere to enter in Chinese-russian sphere which we (west & Indians) want to see as a failure. So in future too if say some radical muslim nation supports pakistan in a war against India, we would need strong allies to count upon too.
It seems you do not completely understand the rationale behind NATO.

NATO works so well because each and every country, especially the the Eastern European countries are willing to go to war with Russia because they think that banding together to defeat the Russian threat will benefit them in the long term.
What threat do the Chinese or Pakis pose to them? What benefit will they get by fighting China?

The whole question about joining NATO is not about us, its about them.
They have a reason to fight Russia.
They have no reason to fight China/Pak.

NATO will not give us any security because Europe nor US has any reason to fight China/Pak. It may as well be economic suicide for them.

They will not even wan't India in the alliance because it increases risks for them without any tangible benefit. After all China is a much bigger market than India.

To be fair India's chances of getting into NATO is nill even if we actively try.

Its not a matter of want.
