TNN | Mar 15, 2019, 09.39 AM IST

AHMEDABAD: Marine security agencies stepped up vigil after a fishermen watch group informed ICG and Marine police about spotting an unidentified vessel off Mangrol coast. Following the input, patrolling in the sea and coastal areas of Gujarat have been increased. Even as the tensions between India and Pakistan are de-escalating, IG BSF, Gujarat frontier GS Malik visited vulnerable areas of Kutch border with Pakistan to review the situation and readiness of the border security force.

Top sources in the defence said Gujarat marine police and ICG were reportedly informed by some of the fishermen about an unidentified vessel with no Indian symbol on it. “The message though non- specific has been taken seriously. Navy, ICG and Gujarat marine police have been instructed to intensify vigil on the entire coastline of Gujarat.
According to top sources in the BSF, the trainees at the headquarters have also been posted at the border for the time being. “Crocodile commando units which patrol the most vulnerable marshy Sir Creek on the western coast of India have been increased,” said a BSF official. “These crocodile units are posted round the clock in the creek area from where most of the infiltration bids by Pakistani fishermen are made. It is the most difficult stretch of border to man, but our commando unit has mastered the art and are ready to face any situation,” the BSF official added.

BSF sources said troops, patrolling and search operations have also been increased in Patan, a district which borders Pakistan. “Camel patrolling units of BSF, patrol the fence round the clock and regularly conduct combing operations in the bordering villages to track suspicious elements.
