Any news / updates, please.

:scared2:
Russians are trying hard to play the affair down. Are they protesting too much?

Russian media has claimed Sweden is overreacting. The Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper suggested the submarine hunt could be a ploy staged by the Swedish military to boost its defence budget, which has undergone a series of cuts since the Cold War.

The official government newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta questioned whether there was any submarine at all, noting nothing had been found by Sweden.

"Either Sweden's echo location equipment is working badly or, as the old saying goes, the eyes of fear see danger everywhere," the paper said.

A defence ministry official quoted by the Tass news agency pointed fingers at a Dutch submarine that participated in an exercise with the Swedish navy last week.

Nothing will come out of this search.

First, assuming it is a Russian sub, it can operate underwater and move quite a long distance in the 5 days this operation has lasted. So most likely the sub is no longer there is the area of search.

Second the radio signal could be a method to check the capability and readiness of Swedes and their possible response.
I would not think Russian Navy would send out a false distress signal, with the Kursk tragedy in its history.

An analysis of the radio signal, SSB on HF I would assume, would be interesting to read about, but I have seen nothing further.

The vessel, whatever it was, is now believed to have left Sweden's territorial waters.
Somebody may still be missing a sub. Just from an SAR perspective.
