SA-3 Pechoras - Surface-to-air missiles

Do Pechora missile still operational in IAF inventory or replaced by any other missile???

There was a planned replacement for the Indian Air Force's to replace Pechora missiles (SAMs). Spyder missiles we brought from Israel were not originally intend to replace Pechora SAMs

IAF whole SAM inventory was came to end of its life span. Both the Pechora and 9K33 Osa missiles were needed to be retired. IAF thought to upgrading the Pechoras to extend to use it for coupe of years more!!!


There were reliable articles about India's SAM and Air Defence Network Capability in Bharat-Rakshak. I tried searching for them but didnt had any luck.

Sa-3 & OSA-AK are being upgraded to improve their efficiency. Akash is a replacement for SA-3 & a contract for 16 akash launchers has already been signed which will be inducted in 2010

Pechora are still operational, iaf has upgraded some of them.

yeah upgraded SA-3 could be best option for some more years.
i've heard that in Serbia war SA-3 modified or Upgraded version Shot, may be a F-117 Stealth Bomber.

A Yugoslav Army 250th Air Defense Missile Brigade 3rd battery equiped with S-125 system managed to shoot down an F-117 Nighthawk "Stealth Attacker" on March 27, 1999 during the Kosovo War (the only recorded downing of a stealth aircraft). The S-125 used had been modified by colonel Zoltán Dani in order to detect stealth aircraft.It was also used to shoot down a NATO F-16 fighter.
